Smithsonian Announces Graphic Novel Series ‘Secret Smithsonian Adventures’

Wright Brothers Model B

Smithsonian Books will be publishing a new graphic novel series, Secret Smithsonian Adventures, following the adventures of four middle schoolers visiting the Smithsonian. During their visit, they happen on someone tampering with history and set off to use their own knowledge of history and science to thwart the intruder’s evil plots. Each book will feature a different Smithsonian museum or gallery and its subject area.

The first volume, The Wrong Wrights follows middle schoolers, Dominique, Eric, Josephine, and Ajay on their field trip to the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum. However upon arrival the museum has somehow been shrunk and is only filled with balloons, blimps, and dirigibles. The Spirit of St. Louis, the Apollo 11 command module, and the Wright Brothers’ 1903 flyer are missing. The students befriend a “fabrications specialist” and travel through time in order to restore the Wright brothers place in history. In their journey they will learn about aerodynamics and other aviation principles from a wise-cracking computer named Smitty.

The book will be written by Steve Hockensmith, the New York Times-bestselling author of the [easyazon_link identifier=”1594746486″ locale=”US” tag=”bounintocomi-20″]Nick and Tesla[/easyazon_link] series along with his co-author Chris Kientz, the writer and producer of the Smithsonian Channel television show Raven Tales. Lee Neilson will illustrate the series.

The series is aimed at 9- to 12-year-old readers and their parents, grandparents, teachers, and librarians.

Secret Smithsonian Adventures #1 will be 64 pages in length at a price point of $10.95. It will be available for purchase on February 23, 2016. The ISBN number is 978-1-58834-541-7.
