Two Graphic Novels About Pope Francis On Their Way

Spain’s Turner publishing house plans to release two Spanish-language graphic novels detailing the life of Pope Francis.

The first graphic novel, Pope Francis, the life of a man who is transforming the world, will cover the life of Pope Francis from 1936-1980. It will examine the childhood of Jorge Mario Bergoglio, his relationships with his family, and his priestly training in the political and social environment of Argentina. It will emphasize his Italian heritage as well as the issue of immigration which EFE reports is “‘engraved on his soul’ due to his own family history.” It will also cover the Pope’s stance on the pedophilia cases denounced by the Catholic Church. They are described as “something more than reprehensible acts” and “a sacrilegious cult.”

The second half of the series, The Reformer Pope 1980-2015 is expected to discuss the Pope’s experiences in the religious area as well as the reforms he has pushed for since his election as Pope.

Both volumes are written by Francisco de la Mora (Short New History of Mexico) with artwork from Chile’s Juan “Nitrox” Marquez.

The first volume is scheduled to be released to coincide with the Pope’s visit to Mexico next week between February 12th and the 17th. The second volume is scheduled for release sometime within the next few months.
