Charles Soule Takes His Talents To Darth Vader!

Jason Aaron’s epic run on Darth Vader just came to an end, but it isn’t the last we will see of the villain. Aaron’s run covered the events following Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. Now, Marvel has tapped Charles Soule to helm a brand new series that will showcase Vader following the events of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith.

The new series from Soule and artist extraordinaire Giuseppe Camuncoli is expected to hit comic book stands this June. The series expects to showcase Vader’s early forays into the dark side. We will get to see him craft his red-bladed lightsaber as well as hunting down surviving Jedi, and more.

Soule is well-versed in Marvel’s Star Wars comics. He’s written Lando, Obi-Wan & Anakin, and Poe Dameron.

In an interview with StarWars.com, Soule called this new series “Vader: Year One.” He also gave us a glimpse of where Vader’s mind is at, “‘Vader, on some level, knows that he is a monster — he has to know this, because he still has that famous spark of good left somewhere deep inside him.’ He knows (again, probably unconsciously) that the moment he allows himself to even consider a path that isn’t complete and utter darkness, he’ll fall.”

Soule promises the new series begins literally the second after the final shot of Revenge of the Sith. Meaning we will most likely get to see Vader stepping out of the surgeon’s table once again. The series will also feature the beginning of the Inquisitors as seen in Star Wars Rebels. And Soule even hinted he will get to answer “Huge questions about the construction of Palpatine’s Empire and his tools. Not just Vader, but the Inquisitors, the military, Imperial society, etc.”

Soule also teased we will get to see a number of Star Wars mainstays aside from Darth Vader. However, he wasn’t going to spoil any surprises, “but if I tell you what they are, they won’t be all that surprising, you know?”

This new Darth Vader series expects to hit comic book shelves in June!
