If You Thought the First Trailer for Thor: Ragnarok Was Awesome, Comic-Con 2017 Just Told You to Hold Their Beer

Thor: Ragnarok had a lot of hype before the Marvel panel in San Diego this year, because of the first trailer. Now a new trailer came out this weekend at Comic-Con, filled with surprises that we never thought possible. If the first trailer got us hyped for Thor: Ragnarok, this trailer just fueled that hype.

In the third installment of the series, Thor (Chris Hemsworth) is stranded on a certain world and has to find his way back to Asgard. The goddess of death Hela (Cate Blanchette) had shattered his hammer, banished him, and now threatens to destroy his world. Thor has to fight as a gladiator in this new realm for the viewing pleasure of The Grandmaster (Jeff Goldblum). In this arena, he meets up with the Hulk/Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) and hatches a plan to get back to Asgard and defeat Hela.

Big Reveals

There were some legitimate surprises coming out from Comic-Con’s famed Hall H on Saturday. Both Mark Ruffalo and the trailer had some big reveals that evening. We weren’t expecting the Hulk to say anything other than “Hulk Smash!” in the movie. However, in the trailer, we see the Hulk putting entire sentences together. He even has a conversation with Thor about the differences between them.

Another big reveal was that Thor, without Mjolnir, is able to summon the lightning. So Thor is revealed to still be the god of thunder, despite not having the hammer channel that power. It fit well with the song playing in the background, AC/DC’s “Thunderstruck.”

Some Questions

In the first trailer for Thor: Ragnarok, Chris Hemsworth’s character is being dragged by Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) and held captive by The Grandmaster to fight in his tournament. Yet in this trailer, we see Thor somehow convinced her to fight by his side to liberate Asgard from the goddess of death. What happens in the movie that changes Valkyrie’s allegiances? What does Thor say/do so Valkyrie works with him, donning a new armor in a battle against Hela?

Another reveal is Loki (Tom Hiddleston) is a captive as well. Thor ends up freeing him, and so he joins his brother in his efforts to save Asgard. Yet in the previous trailer, he was on the opposite side of the couch from The Grandmaster viewing the battles. Loki was just a spectator, watching his foster brother being beaten by the Incredible Hulk. What trick is Loki playing in this movie? Where are his allegiances, and what is his endgame seeing he is playing both sides?

There were a lot of reveals and a lot more questions in this trailer than a simple article here could address. I guess we’ll get all of our curiosities answered when Thor: Ragnarok comes out on November 3rd.

In the meantime, check out the trailer if you haven’t seen it yet or watch for the umpteenth time like I have. It doesn’t get old!
