The Bloody History of Marvel Comics Infinity Gems

Infinity Gems

Marvel’s Infinity Gems have had a long and storied history. In fact, they weren’t even called the Infinity Gems originally. They were called the Soul Gems. And in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, you might know them as the Infinity Stones or the Tesseract, the Aether, the Power Stone, the Mind Stone, the Eye of Agamotto, and the undiscovered Soul Stone.

We wanted to get a better understanding of the Infinity Gems and their role in the Marvel Universe before we see Thanos start to track down the Infinity Stones in Avengers: Infinity War. We headed down to Flashback: Comics and had Marvel Knowledge Master Troy David-Phillips give us a brief overview of the Infinity Gems’ bloody history.

I thought it was really interesting to see that there are actual limits to the Infinity Gauntlet’s power when wielded by the Avengers in order to try and prevent the incursion of a separate universe. It will be interesting to see what kind of weakness the Gauntlet will have in the hands of Thanos. Will the Avengers have to manipulate him emotionally in order to defeat him, or will this seemingly all powerful weapon have a tiny flaw like the Death Star in Star Wars.

Avengers: Infinity War comes to theaters on May 4, 2018.
