After Fox Disney Deal, Bob Iger Reveals Big News For Deadpool

Deadpool

One of the biggest worries with the Disney buyout of Fox was whether or not Disney would allow Fox to continue to pursue R-Rated X-Men films like Logan and Deadpool. Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds also seemed to worry about what could happen with Deadpool. He made multiple jokes after news first broke of the potential deal.

However, Disney chief Bob Iger laid that worry to rest.

The Hollywood Reporter indicates Iger alleviated fears in a call with investors. In fact, he even discusses a whole new Marvel brand for R-rated films like Deadpool.

It [Deadpool] clearly has been and will be Marvel branded. But we think there might be an opportunity for a Marvel-R brand for something like Deadpool. As long as we let the audiences know what’s coming, we think we can manage that fine.

I’m glad Iger put those fears to rest on day one. But I’m even more excited about the potential for a whole Marvel R-rated brand. We’ve seen it in the comics with Marvel’s Max label. It’s comics with excessive violence geared towards adults. Probably, the most famous is Garth Ennis’ Punisher Max series. While Netflix is doing a swell job handling The Punisher, I could see Disney branching out with Ghost Rider or One of my all time favorites, Blade. Forget the X-Men and the Fantastic Four, let’s get Blade going again!

It’s no surprise that Iger would want to allow Deadpool to continue with its R-Ratings. The first film was wildly successful. It became the highest grossing X-Men film raking in $783 million worldwide. Fox then followed up that success with Logan bringing in $616 million worldwide.

If Disney does pursue an R-Rated Marvel brand which characters would you want to see included?

Ryan Reynolds stars in the Untitled Deadpool Sequel which comes out June 1, 2018.
