Black Panther Star Chadwick Boseman Explains Why Wakanda is a Focus in Avengers: Infinity War

Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman provided a healthy dose of information about Wakanda’s role in Marvel Studios’ upcoming Avengers: Infinity War film. We got our first glimpse of Wakanda in the post-credit scenes of Captain America: Civil War and really got to experience it in last month’s Black Panther.

Chadwick Boseman sat down with ComicBook.com to explain the importance of Wakanda.

“You have a world problem with Thanos. It’s a problem that affects everyone in the world. Wakanda is on the world stage. We are obviously advanced in a way where we can help the situation. That is all that’s happening here.”

And as we saw in Black Panther, Wakanda is extremely advanced with vibranium technology. We saw stealth, energy shields, kinetic absorption, rapid healing, and more. Much of it is technology we haven’t really seen on Earth in the Marvel Cinematic Universe before.

Boseman added:

“From Black Panther, you are going into the world of Wakanda. They are more technologically advanced than any other nation on the planet. You are seeing some gadgets and some technology and merger of those things with spirituality in a way that you didn’t see in Civil War, but that is because you are coming into their space. Now you get the opportunity to see it.”

And while we haven’t seen the type of technology Wakanda offers on Earth before, we have seen similar technology in the Guardians of the Galaxy movies. The energy shields were shown on the planet Xandar as the Nova Corps attempted to stave off Ronan’s invasion of the planet. And the Guardians will be arriving in Wakanda. Boseman notes with their arrival there will be conflict.

“They’re in my world. It’s interesting to have them enter our space, which is not something that happens all of the time. I think it’s important for us to give the flavor of Wakanda, and they’re immediate adjusting to our space. I think that will be part of the fun of the movie. The Guardians entering it, obviously there’s a clash. All of it is conflict, but it’s not conflict between us necessarily. It is an emotional, psychological, social conflict.”

And while Wakanda has advanced technology they don’t have the same knowledge the Guardians of the Galaxy and the other Avengers can bring to the table. Boseman elaborates, “You see where the gap is, and some things we are able to do that they are not able to do and we can. That’s what you’ll definitely find.”

Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther will team up with the Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy in Avengers: Infinity War which comes to theaters on April 27, 2018.
