Steven Spielberg Just Confirmed When Indiana Jones 5 Will Start Filming

Indiana Jones

Indiana Jones will be back in action sooner than you think. Steven Speilberg confirmed the fifth movie in the franchise will begin filming in April 2019 in the United Kingdom.

Steven Spielberg made the Indiana Jones announcement while speaking at the Empire Awards.

“It’s always worth the trip when I get to work with this deep bench of talent coming out of the UK. he actors, and the crew, the chippies, the sparks, the drivers — everybody who has helped me make my movies here, and will continue helping me make my movies here when I come back in April 2019 to make the fifth Indiana Jones movie right here.”

Spielberg did not reveal any further details regarding the new Indiana Jones movie when he accepted the Empire Legend of Our Lifetime award. The film will see Spielberg return to the director’s chair with Harrison Ford reprising his iconic role as the professor, archaeologist, and adventurer.

Spielberg previously directed Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, and Raiders of the Lost Ark.

The first three movies were all filmed in the 1980s with a much younger Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones. The latest film Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull debuted nearly a decade ago in 2008. It starred a much older Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones who was called back into action to discover a Soviet Plot behind the artifacts known as the Crystal Skulls. Ford would team up with Shia LaBeouf’s character Mutt Williams and his old ally Karen Allen as Marion Ravenwood as they attempted to foil the Soviet’s plot. LaBeouf’s Mutt Williams would actually turn out to be Indiana Jones’ son.

Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull would receive a positive Tomatometer rating with a 77%. However, audiences had much harsher reaction to the film as it received a 53% Audience Score.

It will be extremely interesting to see how Spielberg will treat Harrison Ford’s Indiana Jones. Given Harrison Ford is now 75 years old, I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw some sort of time travel journey to introduce us to a brand new actor taking on the role of Jones. Or perhaps we have Ford reading out of a journal about his previous adventures.

Are you excited to see Indiana Jones return to the big screen?

Steven Spielberg’s next big project is Ready Player One which comes out on March 29, 2018.
