All that’s been happening in the Spider-Verse

A lot of news has been coming out on the untitled Spider-Man sequel to Homecoming. First, casting news seems to indicate that Jake Gyllenhaal will be playing an illusion special effects master, Mysterio.

The thing about this casting news is that we’re seeing everything being conceptualized so far. We’re getting a sequel, and the main villain will be Mysterio. Mysterio/Quentin Beck has been a staple villain in the Spider-Man comics, being one of the more notable villains of the Sinister Six. Beck was a visual effects artist who turned to a life of crime after a failed acting career. His usage of technology in his criminal endeavors crosses paths with the web-slinger at some point. He develops his tech to create illusions that confuse the wall-crawlers’ Spider-senses. Many of his run-ins with Spider-Man have almost resulted in the identity of Peter Parker being exposed.

Another part of the Sinister Six

Another character we’ll be getting is a reappearance from Vulture. Michael Keaton will be reprising his role as Adrian Toomes in the untitled Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel.

His appearance in Homecoming is heralded as being one of the greatest villains in superhero films. Many regard his character as being more fleshed-out and relatable as far as antagonists go. Keaton’s performance is regarded to be on par with Erik Kilmonger in Black Panther, Loki from Thor, and Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War. So we’ve seen Vulture, an end-credits scene with a guy we believe to be Scorpion, and now we’re getting Mysterio. Sinister Six anyone?

And an extended cameo appearance?

And in more recent news, we might be getting another mentor for Peter Parker in this sequel. When you think about illusions and special effects, who better to guide a young Spider-Man through the ins-and-outs of real magic versus fake magic than Doctor Strange?

Stories have surfaced recently about the possibility of Doctor Strange making another cameo in another one of the Avengers’ members films. His cameo in Thor: Ragnarok was hilarious, and though short, helped to show how the MCU is connected. To help affirm that connection with Sony and Disney MCU, having Doctor Strange would just strengthen that connectivity.

I don’t think it’ll be as involved as when Spider-Man helped Strange with Baron Mordo, because I think they’ll be saving him for Strange’s next solo film. And I don’t think they’ll do the Wand of Watoomb story line. But I’ve been wrong about my predictions before.

And a new trailer for the Spider-verse!

This one just recently dropped. We get to see our first official trailer for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse! Sony Pictures is going all-out with their Spider-Man franchise in this trailer, featuring just three of the web-crawlers but mainly focusing on Miles Morales.

Actually, rather than read what I have to say about it, take a look at it here:
