Marvel Writer Saladin Ahmed and Vertigo Artist Richard Pace Call for Denial of Service and Public Harassment of Trump Supporters

Saladin Ahmed and Richard Pace

**Editor’s Note** The headline was changed to reflect Richard Pace’s original tweet, which called for public harassment of Trump supporters and not necessarily denial of service which Saladin Ahmed called for.

Original article continues:

Marvel writer Saladin Ahmed, who is currently writing Exiles, is again is looking to weaponize Twitter against people he doesn’t agree with. He previously pressured Kellogg’s to roll over due to cover artwork on their Corn Pops cereal box. He deemed the portrayal of one of the Corn Pops people as racist. Now it looks like Saladin has upped his ante.

He took a cue from Congressmen Maxine Water’s playbook which advocates public harassment of people who do not share his political opinions. While Ahmed doesn’t go as far as calling for public harassment of people who disagree with his politics. What he does believe that those people should be denied services.

Ahmed wasn’t the only comic book creator who took this view, Richard Pace, who has written Batman: The Doom That Came to Gotham and done art for the X-Men, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Doctor Strange, and more, also advocated the same position as Maxine Waters. Pace will also be providing art for Vertigo Comics’ upcoming Second Coming series.

This issue stems from President Donald Trump’s Press Secretary Sarah Sanders getting kicked out of the Red Hen restaurant in Lexington, Virginia due to her support an employment by the President. Sanders wasn’t the first one to face such harassment. Also this weekend. Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi faced hecklers at a movie theater in Tampa Bay and Homeland Security Secretary Kristjen Nielsen had to leave a Mexican restaurant due to hecklers.

As you can see Ahmed believes heckling and harassing these women and other Trump supporters is righteous. He believes they are neo-nazis and they should be denied services. They are not neo-Nazis. While Ahmed doesn’t go into the types of services he believes they should be denied, it’s not out of the realm of possibility that he would advocate for denying them medical services or other life-saving services.

It’s also not out of the question that he would lobby his own employer to try and prevent people from purchasing Marvel Comics. He is advocating for them to be denied services and effectively telling comic shops to prevent people who he deems “neo-Nazis” from purchasing any kind of good or service. We’ve already seen a number of creators like Chuck Wendig tell their customers not to purchase Disney related products. Most recently, DICE and EA made it perfectly clear they didn’t want people to buy their upcoming Battlefield game.

Any business should have the right to deny service to any customer for any reason. However, it wouldn’t make business sense to deny service based on political beliefs especially when over 62 million people voted for Donald Trump back in 2016. That’s a good portion of the United States’s adult population. All money is green, no matter who holds it. This form of political targeting and consumer separation could only end badly especially when Saladin is referring to his political opponents as Neo-Nazis on a childish whim.

Are any of these creators in a position to brand a scarlet letter on another human being? Tell me in the comments below!
