Henry Cavill Reveals When Fans Can Expect a Man of Steel Sequel

It’s a Bird, It’s a Plane
Before you know it, Henry Cavill will be in theaters again. Unfortunately, it won’t be as Superman. The actor is co-starring in the highly anticipated Mission Impossible: Fallout with Tom Cruise. The last few entries in the franchise have been downright fantastic, and all signs are pointing at Fallout upping the ante. Thanks to his role, Henry Cavill is doing some much-appreciated promotion for the Summer blockbuster. Since the film just premiered in France, the team is there doing the rounds with press. While in an interview with Erik Davies, one question led to the topic of Superman.
Here’s the snippet from Davis’ Twitter.
I asked Henry Cavill when we’ll see another Superman movie: “I can say this… it is highly likely we will see another Superman movie somewhere between 2019 and 2045.”

Sometimes between 2019 and…2045? Okay, so let’s get one thing out of the way. There will be no Superman film in 2018. That’s unfortunate news, for those of us who were secretly expecting a new film by the end of the year. The quote also doesn’t refer to the “next time” we might see Superman. Many expect the character to make an appearance in next year’s Shazam!.
Reading Between the Lines
Henry Cavill is a social media mastermind. As an openly admitted gaming nerd, he’s been around the internet for quite some time. He knows exactly the kind of weight his statement could have. There have certainly been some rumblings about a sequel being directed by Kingsman: The Golden Circle’s Matthew Vaughan. Considering the opening shot of that film is an “S” over suit, it would make sense for Vaughan to tackle a Superman film.
Yet, just because the fans and creators want it, doesn’t necessarily mean it’s going to happen. Walter Hamada has been in control for a few months now, but fans have yet to see the fruits of his work. Aquaman, Shazam!, and Wonder Woman: 1984 were all films being made before he got there. The studio’s presentation at this year’s San Diego Comic Con will truly spell out the future for these characters.
It’s important to note that they didn’t refer to it as a sequel to Man of Steel. Maybe that’s just wishful thinking. Since it doesn’t feel like Henry Cavill has starred in a real Superman film yet. Hopefully, Matthew Vaughan can help him out with that.
San Diego Comic Con is next week, so expect plenty of craziness in the coming days!
