5 God-like X-Men Characters New Fans Won’t Know

The X-Men’s little corner of the Marvel universe is vast. New readers can jump on today and never be aware of the existence of hundreds of characters. In a franchise as storied as the X-Men, there’s no telling when a writer will dive into the Marvel’s catalog and mine some inspiration from the past to stir things up. Jean, Magneto, Storm, and Apocalypse are all strong- but here are five ridiculously powerful X-Men characters that a new fan may not be aware of, and could put them all to shame!
5. The Living Monolith – Ahmet Abdol

First appearing in [easyazon_link identifier=”B00ZNR45P6″ locale=”US” tag=”boundingintocomics-20″] Uncanny X-Men #54 Vol.1[/easyazon_link] in 1969, and created by Arnold Drake, Ahmet Abdul, The Living Monolith, has the mutant power to absorb and manipulate cosmic rays. After drawing in a sufficient amount of the energy he can grow to heights exceeding 30 feet! In this form, he can project the same energy as blasts of concussive force. One of the major reasons he never became a more prevalent threat is his connection to X-Men member Havok, whose powers are also fueled by the same source. This limits the amount Abdul can access while they are both on Earth. Understanding this limitation, Abdol altered his genetic makeup using Havok’s genes. This granted him additional abilities such as heat and vibration projection, telepathy, mind-control, and increasing his size and mass beyond his original limits.
4. Mikhail Rasputin

Mikhail Rasputin debuted in [easyazon_link identifier=”B000RVKDTU” locale=”US” tag=”boundingintocomics-20″]Uncanny X-Men #285[/easyazon_link]. He was a Russian Cosmonaut and the elder brother to the X-Men members Colossus and Magik. Mikhail has the ability to manipulate energy in many ways including projecting blasts of energy, teleportation, manipulating matter at the subatomic level, and he can even rip open holes in space-time to alternate realities. Once in there he has a pension for conquering those worlds; something he’s accomplished on two occasions. On top of all that, similar to his little brother Colossus, he also possesses superhuman-levels of physical strength. Unfortunately, when his powers emerged, so did a form of psychosis. Mikhail is prone to bouts of megalomania at levels that rival those of Apocalypse.
3. Proteus – Kevin MacTaggert

Most of the world may recognize Proteus from the two-part episode of the same name during the 90’s X-Men animated series. However, the mutant also known as Kevin MacTaggert, originally debuted in 1979 in [easyazon_link identifier=”B00ZMQPQ92″ locale=”US” tag=”boundingintocomics-20″]Uncanny X-Men #125[/easyazon_link]. He was created by Chris Claremont and John Bryne.
His mother was well-known scientist and genetics expert, Moira MacTaggert (a recurring character from the same animated series). Like most on this list, Proteus can manipulate matter and other aspects of reality such as gravity and the laws of physics. His biggest limitation is that once he leaves the general vicinity, whatever he warps, reverts back to its original state. Kevin’s actual body is made up of pure psionic energy which allows him to take possession of other people’s bodies. Due to not having a true physical form, Proteus is essentially immortal.
2. Mad Jim Jaspers

Sir James Jaspers, or Mad Jim Jaspers, created by Dave Thorpe, and Alan Davis in 1981 in Marvel Superheroes #377, is a member of the Excalibur rogues gallery. Jim Jaspers has the ability to bend reality to his will. Not on the same level as Franklin Richards, the mutant son of the Fantastic Four’s Mr. Fantastic and The Invisible Woman, but he’s no slouch either. Jaspers can manipulate his body at will, reanimate the dead (or himself), and gift life to creatures of his making. A limitation of his ability is that Jasper can only manipulate what is already in existence. In other words, unlike Franklin who can form entire pocket universes to play with, Jasper cannot create matter out of thin air – but he can turn your apartment into a psychedelic funhouse.
1. X-Man – Nate Grey

Nathaniel Grey debuted in[easyazon_link identifier=”0785101330″ locale=”US” tag=”boundingintocomics-20″]X-Man #1[/easyazon_link] in 1995 by Jeph Loeband Steve Skroce during the legendary X-Men crossover, [easyazon_link identifier=”0785195092″ locale=”US” tag=”boundingintocomics-20″]”Age of Apocalypse”[/easyazon_link]. In that alternate timeline, Nate is the result of genetic engineering by Mr. Sinister.
The mad scientist created Nate by combining samples of Jean Grey and Cyclops’ DNA. Basically, Nate Grey is what Cable could have become had he not been infected by the techno-organic virus as a child. Nate, or X-Man, is a psionic of the highest order with power rivaling that of the Phoenix itself. He has the ability to telepathically manipulate an entire city’s worth of people, precognition, teleportation, astral projection, energy projection and manipulation, pass through alternate dimensions and that’s just to start. His telekinesis is so awesome he can manipulate matter at the quantum level! On one occasion Nate pulled someone’s physical body (Professor-X) into the Astral Plane and back out at his location, which happened to be on the other side of the planet! His powers are only limited by his own imagination.
