Report: Loki and Scarlet Witch Getting Their Own Marvel TV Shows!

Loki and Scarlet Witch

A new report indicates that Tom Hiddleston’s Loki and Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch will be getting their very own television shows on Disney’s upcoming streaming service.

The report from Variety also indicates that Loki and Scarlet Witch won’t be the only Marvel superheroes getting their own shows. However, the report indicates that heroes like Iron Man and Captain America who have already had their own stand alone films will not be featured in the television shows. They want to focus more on second tier characters.

This is an extremely interesting tidbit because it’s hard to imagine a show focused on Loki without Thor, who has had three films centered around him.

And much like Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. that saw Clark Gregg’s Agent Phil Coulson make the jump from the big screen to the small screen, Tom Hiddleston and Elizabeth Olsen are expected to reprise their roles in these forthcoming streaming shows.

The shows are also expected to have a big budget that will rival other major studio productions. Each series is expected to have between six to eight episodes.

Furthermore, Marvel Studios’ boss Kevin Feige is expected to have a hands-on role in the development of these shows. With Feige’s attachment to the shows, it means they will fall under the Marvel Studios production banner instead of Marvel TV that houses Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. as well as the various Marvel Netflix shows like Daredevil, Punisher, and Luke Cage.

While the report didn’t reveal any details on possible story lines, Elizabeth Olsen has previously talked about adopting the [easyazon_link identifier=”0785117210″ locale=”US” tag=”boundingintocomics-20″]House of M[/easyazon_link] storyline.

“I would love to [do a standalone], and I would love it to be House of M, which is a comic book series of The Vision and Scarlet Witch having a make-believe family.

She [Wanda] believes she has twin children- she alters her own reality to believe that, but really she has a miscarriage and Vision goes along with it. Then they [Vision and her family] have to tell her that she was make-believing the entire time, and she has a very traumatic experience and screams, and kills all the mutants – but that’s an X-Men story, so we’d have to adjust the ending.”

Olsen also confirmed that co-star Paul Bettany appears to be on-board with the House of M idea.

“Paul Bettany and I joke about how much we’d like to do a House of M spin-off. And a real indie version of it”

If you are unfamiliar with the House of M, it’s an X-Men focused story that sees Magneto come to power after he exposes an anti-mutant conspiracy led by Richard M. Nixon. After exposing Nixon, Magneto takes control of the island of Genosha and begins influencing international laws that creates a racist society where mutants control governments, businesses, and culture. Humans are despised and treated as second class citizens.

The world of the House of M is set in 1979, but was created by Scarlet Witch’s reality warping powers. She grants the New Avengers and the X-Men their hearts’ desires. Her own desire is also fulfilled as she has two children William and Thomas in this alternate reality.

Given that the House of M is such a X-Men-centric story, it’s quite possible this could be how Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige introduce the X-Men into the Marvel Cinematic Universe now that Disney’s deal with Fox has been greenlit.

What do you think? Are you interested in seeing television shows about Loki and Scarlet Witch? Would you want to see a House of M adaptation? Could the X-Men be introduced on Disney’s streaming service?
