After news broke of Richard Meyer’s lawsuit against Mark Waid for tortious interference and defamation, a number of comic book industry professionals rallied around the DC Comics and Marvel Comics veteran writer.
#istandwithmarkwaid obviously. Besides him usually being on the side of the angels, this suit will fall apart the moment a judge asks “what prevented you from pursuing a publishing deal with another company?”
— Jamal Igle™ at Baltimore Comic Con 2310 (@JAMALIGLE) September 30, 2018
Since everyone’s saying #istandwithmarkwaid, let me just take that a little bit further and say hell, I’ll offer him a chair and buy him dinner. Let the man sit!
Besides, he’s pretty entertaining to chat with over a meal.

Snowflake Richard Meyer is a laughingstock, exhausting infant, & creatively vacant douche to 99% of the comic book industry. That's why his career is shit.
Hope he has fun spending that monkey money all you tools gave him on a lawyer.#istandwithmarkwaid

Disgusted by what's going on right now.
Basically @EthanVanSciver is, at best, a bully.
Dick Meyer of @DiversityAndCmx is, at best, a bigot who has regularly harassed people online.
Support Ethan or Dick? Feel free to unfollow me right now, please.

When a whole lot of people wouldn't do anything at all, Mark tried his best to help. Many times in ways the public never saw. Mark's got my full support. Always.

Whatever happens with this ridiculous lawsuit, I’m not exaggerating when I say Mark Waid’s comics have gotten me through some of the darkest periods of my life, and making me a better, happier person. Nobody can take that from him.#IStandWithMarkWaid

This lawsuit is just a cry for attention from some dweeb who seems to have run out of creative ways at attempting to seem edgy and innovative to his fellow dorks. #istandwithmarkwaid

#IStandWithMarkWaid because he’s the only one with the truth on his side. I look forward to the discovery phase of a trial that his bigoted, abusive opponent will end up paying for.

#IStandWithMarkWaid and every other creator that comicsgate peepants doodoo babies have harassed. I don’t usually bother talking about how they’ve come for me too because a) duh and b) I’m tired of saying the same shit for the last 4 years, but fuck em. Don’t stand for this shit.

This goes without saying but I #IStandWithMarkWaid. Unbelievable that Dick is so delusional and egotistical he can’t see that this is just going show more of his ass.

If there's a GoFundMe for @MarkWaid's legal fees I'm all in. Mark shouldn't have to spend a dime on account of ese pendejo Meyer.

#IStandWithMarkWaid because it’s not his voice keeping these clowns from careers in comics.
It’s common sense, decency, and good taste.

I haven’t read the full nonsense story yet, but Mark Waid Is one of classiest, smartest, and friendliest creators in comics. I was lucky enough to be edited by him on a comic and became a 500% better writer as a result. So yeah, #IStandWithMarkWaid

Interestingly enough, Aaron Campebell decided to label Meyer a “vile racist misogynistic snowflake.” This comes after Meyer’s suit against Waid which is specifically suing him for defamation.
— Aaron Campbell @NYCC AA L-18 (@olmancampbell) September 30, 2018
Website Graphic Policy seemingly would make the same mistake by stating that no one will hire Richard Meyer after his lawsuit.
So expect you all to get requests for all communications and it's now all public. Think no one will hire you now? Wait until all of that is public. Meyers in his hubris just sunk you all. Congrats, you just played yourselves. #IStandWithMarkWaid
— Graphic Policy (@graphicpolicy) October 1, 2018
The editor of Graphic Policy would follow that up by associating Comicsgate with the Ku Klux Klan.

Nick Rekieta of Rekieta Law in Central Minnestoa told me:
“No, I don’t think they will be evidence against Waid.
Waid is liable for his own statements, not the statements of others. It would be possible that some statements, such as the ones about Meyer never getting work again, could be used as evidence that Waid’s defamation has spread and caused him damage.
But these are just opinions on social media, they won’t have that much probative value.”
What do you make of the statements made the people supporting Mark Waid?
