During this week’s New York Comic Con the Mobile Suit Gundam franchise gave an update to their upcoming anime project for the beloved franchise.

The new anime titled Gundam Narrative will be set in the Universal Century Timeline. According to a report from Anime News Network, the anime is expected to debut the first 20 minutes of the project at Anime NYC, which takes place from November 16 to 18.

A trailer for the anime film debuted back in June. Take a look:

The announcement of Mobile Suit Gundam Narrative premiering at Anime NYC means, American audiences will get a sneak peek before it even premieres in Japan on November 30. Anime News Network notes that the film will hopefully debut “as close as possible to the Japanese theatrical release.”

Moblie Suit Gundam Narrative is part of the “UC NexT 0100 Project.” That means it will follow the events of the original Mobile Suit Gundam series as well as Mobile Suit Gundam Unicron.

Narrative will feature some new suit designs for fans. So far the two that are confirmed are the RX-0 Unicorn Gundam 03 Phenex and the MSN-06S Sinanju Stein.

The anime comes from Sunrise and will be directed by Gundam Thunderbolt alum Shunichi Yoshizawa based off a script by Gundam Unicron’s Harutoshi Fukui. Gundam Twilight Axis’s Kumiko Takahashi will be in charge of character designs. Handling the mechanical aspect of the show will be Eiji Komatsu and Hajime Kotoki. Takako Suzuki will be the key coloring artist with Yukiko Maruyama and Yoshimi Mindea as art directors.

The new Gundam anime will feature music composed by Hiroyuki Sawano who has previously worked on projects such as Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn RE:0096, Blue Exorcist Movie, The Seven Deadly Sins, Attack on Titan and many others.

The new Moblie Suit Gundam anime is being described by Sunrise as follows:

“U.C. 0097. The year the Laplace’s Box was opened. Despite the revelation of the original charter for the Universal Century, which acknowledges the existence of Newtypes and their rights, the world remains largely unchanged.

After the destruction of the Neo Zeon remnant force known as the Sleeves, the event that has come to be known as the “Laplace Incident” seems to have drawn to a close. In the final battle, two Full Psycho Frame mobile suits displayed power beyond human imagination. The menace of the White Unicorn and the Black Lion were sealed away from public consciousness, and were consigned to be forgotten by history.

But now sightings of the RX-0 Unicorn 03, long thought lost two years ago, are being reported. Its name is Phenex, an immortal golden bird.”

Are you excited about the new Gundam Anime?
