Dragon Ball Super: Broly dropped their second trailer at New York Comic Con earlier this month and gave us a brand new look at Frieza that we’ve never seen before.

If you pay close attention you can see Frieza arriving on Planet Vegeta without of his usual iconic armor.

Frieza

In his base form, Frieza without the Saiyan armor looks a bit more different.

One of the big differences for Dragon Ball Super: Broly appears to be the scales on Frieza’s arms. In the trailer his skin looks smooth where it use to be almost scaly.

What’s interesting is we get to see what he looks like without his Saiyan armor. It shouldn’t really come as a surprise as it resembles what he looks like in his other forms.

Even in Frieza’s base form he has the purple plate in the middle of his chest.

What’s really interesting is the fact that Frieza isn’t wearing the Saiyan armor that he’s known to wear in this form. It’s possible he hasn’t obtained a set of Saiyan armor yet. However, if you look closely at the trailer you can see that the Ginyu Force as well as Frieza’s other allies all appear to be adorned in Saiyan armor. In fact, even King Cold and his council are wearing Saiyan armor. Even when Frieza’s blowing up Planet Vegeta he isn’t wearing any Saiyan armor.

One has to wonder why Frieza decided to don the Saiyan armor. Could he be wearing it as a trophy to show to others that it was he who destroyed Planet Vegeta?

The 20th film of the beloved franchise, Dragon Ball Super: Broly, not only gives fans an updated art style┬áthat calls from the franchise’s manga roots, but it also takes us deep into moments of Dragon Ball history that fans have long awaited.

Here’s the official synopsis for Dragon Ball Super: Broly:

“This is the story of a new Saiyan. Earth is peaceful following the Tournament of Power. Realizing that the universes still hold many more strong people yet to see, Goku spends all his days training to reach even greater heights. Then one day, Goku and Vegeta are faced by a Saiyan called ‘Broly’ who they’ve never seen before. The Saiyans were supposed to have been almost completely wiped out in the destruction of Planet Vegeta, so what’s this one doing on Earth? This encounter between the three Saiyans who have followed completely different destinies turns into a stupendous battle, with even Freeza (back from Hell) getting caught up in the mix.”

What do you make of Frieza’s first form without the armor? Is it what you imagined?

Dragon Ball Super: Broly comes to theaters in North America on January 16, 2019.
