Netflix Announces 5 New Anime Series Including Pacific Rim and Altered Carbon!

Netflix announced a slew of new anime series including series based off of Pacific Rim and Altered Carbon while showcasing their content in Asia.

Pacific Rim

The new Pacific Rim series will take place within the movie universe and follow the story of two siblings, a young idealistic teenage boy and his naive younger sister. The two will discover an abandoned Jaeger and take it across dangerous lands in order to find their rescue parents. The series will stick with its main draw of seeing Kaiju face off against the man built Jeagers.

The series will be created by Craig Kyle and Greg Johnson. It will be produced by Legendary Entertainment.

Altered Carbon

Altered Carbon

Much like the Pacific Rim anime, the Altered Carbon anime will also take place within the live-action Netflix series. The story is expected to explore “new elements of the story mythology.”

If you are unfamiliar with Altered Carbon, the series is based off [easyazon_link identifier=”0345457684″ locale=”US” tag=”boundingintocomics-20″]the book by Richard K. Morgan[/easyazon_link]. The Netflix series focuses on Takeshi Kovacs who is revived after being on ice for 250 years. He is fitted with a new body and must uncover the truth of a murder in order to win his freedom. The universe features the idea that people can occupy different bodies called sleeves.

It will be written by Dai Sato of Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo fame. He will be joined by Tsukasa Kondo. Anima will be the animation studio behind the project.

Cagaster of an Insect Cage

Cagaster of an Insect Cage

This series will be set in a post-apocalyptic world. The world is ravaged by the mysterious disease known as Cagaster that turns them into giant murderous insects. The series will follow a young couple as they attempt to survive in the world.

Koichi Chigira will direct the project and Gonzo will be the animation studio behind the project.

Yasuke

Yasuke takes place in a fantasy world loosely based in feudal Japan where mechs and magic rule. An old ronin will come out of retirement to escort a child to safety as dark forces seek to eliminate him. Yasuke is based off the African samurai who fought with Oda Nobunaga.

The series is created by The Boondocks creator LeSean Thomas. Thomas will also be directing and acting as an Executive Producer. Lakeith Stanfield has already been cast to give voice to Yasuke. Animation studio MAPPA will be working on the series. The series will feature music by Flying Lotus, who will also serve as an Executive Producer.

Trese

Trese

Trese will take place in a fantastical Manila that sees creatures from Philippine folklore live in hiding amongst humans. The series will focus on Alexandra Trese who will find herself going head to head against a criminal underworld made up of supernatural beings.

The series is based on the manga created by Budjette Tan and Kajo Baldissimo. Jay Olivia, who worked on Wonder Woman and The Legend of Korra, will serve as executive producer. The show will be produced by Shanty Harmayn and Tanya Yuson at BASE Entertainment.
