Marvel Releases New Captain Marvel Trailer on Monday Night Football – Watch It Here

Marvel Studios released their second trailer for their upcoming Captain Marvel film starring Brie Larson and Jude Law during halftime of Monday Night Football as the Superbowl champions Philadelphia Eagles face off against the Washington Redskins.

Take a look:

One thing appears clear from this trailer is that Marvel Studios is radically altering the origin story of Captain Marvel from the comics. No longer does it appear that she gains her powers from an accident involving the powerful Psyche-Magnitron that saw her DNA merged with the Kree DNA of Mar-Vell.

It now appears Captain Marvel is the result of genetic manipulation by the Kree. In fact, it looks like the Kree might have actually kidnapped and experimented on Captain Marvel. For non-comic book fans this shouldn’t be a surprise as Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. heavily explored the Kree and their experimentations on humanity that resulted in the Inhumans.

However, as Marvel Studios is wont to do, there is still quite a bit mystery involving Captain Marvel’s origin and in fact it looks like she will actually go on a mission of self-discovery when she arrives on Earth. It actually was a little reminiscent of Matt Damon’s Jason Bourne as he tries to discover his past and why his combat instincts are so honed.

While there appears to be a bit of a mystery involving Captain Marvel’s origin as well as the role of the Skrulls and even Jude Law’s character, the trailer was once again underwhelming. There wasn’t anything awe-inspiring or even just a wow moment. It looked like typical superhero fare.

What did you think about the trailer? Will you be checking out Captain Marvel or might this be a movie will you skip? If you are thinking about skipping is there anything in future trailers that might be able to get you into the theater?

Captain Marvel hits theaters onĀ  March 8, 2019.
