King Ghidorah Arrives in Brand New Godzilla II: King of the Monsters Trailer

King Ghidorah and Godzilla will duke it out for the crown as the top kaiju on Earth in Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures brand new trailer for Godzilla II: King of the Monsters.

Take a look:

The trailer starts out with Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown listening to the horrors of the world as massive kaiju began to take over the planet and fight for dominance. You can hear the utter devastation as what I can only image are the death throes of thousands if not millions of people as these massive monsters take over the planet.

From there, we get a bunch of epic teases for upcoming fights, the most anticipated one being King Ghidorah versus Godzilla. However, we also get a look at Mothra as well as Rodan.

Maybe the most interesting part of the trailer is the discussion of an alliance with Godzilla in order to preserve the human race. Ken Watanabe’s Dr. Ishiro Serizawa lets what looks to be the remains of the United States government know that humanity would be the pets of Godzilla.

However, it might not really be that simple as the trailer indicates that humanity might actually be rehabbing Godzilla. We hear Millie Bobby Brown’s character Madison Russell ask, “Are you sure he’s going to be okay?”

It’s quite possible that Godzilla was injured during a fight with Rodan and it has weakened him. My guess is that Godzilla is not at 100% capacity when King Ghidorah arrives and thus he needs the help of Monarch in order to rapidly heal him. It’s not out of the question for Monarch to have this type of technology as we know they’ve been researching the kaiju for decades.

But maybe the biggest evidence of this is what actress Vera Farmiga hinted at when she discussed her role as Dr. Emma Russell back in July.

“I play a paleobiologist. She has figured out a way to communicate with the creatures and potentially control them using their bioacoustics on a sonar level. So she is like a DJ for the monsters.”

It’s possible Dr. Russell’s technology can also heal the kaiju.

Here’s the official description for the film:

“Following the global success of “Godzilla” and “Kong: Skull Island” comes the next chapter in Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Legendary Pictures’ cinematic MonsterVerse, an epic action adventure that pits Godzilla against some of the most popular monsters in pop culture history. The new story follows the heroic efforts of the crypto-zoological agency Monarch as its members face off against a battery of god-sized monsters, including the mighty Godzilla, who collides with Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah. When these ancient super-species—thought to be mere myths—rise again, they all vie for supremacy, leaving humanity’s very existence hanging in the balance.”

Godzilla: King of the Monsters comes to theaters on May 31, 2019. You can also catch Godzilla facing down King Ghidorah in the third part of the upcoming Netflix special, Godzilla: The Planet Eater.

What do you think about the trailer? What do you make of the connection between Godzilla and humanity? What battles are you looking forward to seeing?
