The Hollywood Reporter is reporting [easyazon_link identifier=”1476782997″ locale=”US” tag=”bounintocomi-20″]Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency[/easyazon_link], the novel by Douglas Adams and recently published comic by Chris Ryall and Tony Akins from IDW Entertainment, has received an eight episode order from BBC America.

The series isn’t new to BBC. BBC Radio produced an adaptation starring Harry Enfield in October 2007 as well as a sequel in 2008. There was also a 2010 television pilot adaptation by Howard Overman for BBC Four which borrowed characters and minor plot elements from the novel. The success of the pilot resulted in three more episodes which debuted in 2012.

The new series will be written by Chronicle’s Max Landis and co-produced by AMC Studios, Ideate Media, IDW Entertainment, and Circle of Confusion (The Walking Dead).

The story centers around the titular detective, Dirk Gently, as he investigates cases involving the supernatural.

Landis will also be the executive producer of the series along with Ted Adams and David Ozer from IDW, David Alpert and Rick Jacobs from Circle of Confusion, and Zainir Aminullah and Arvind Ethan David from Ideate Media.

The order shows the strength of the Dirk Gently series after IDW brought the character back to the comic world in a [easyazon_link identifier=”B018UKHUYU” locale=”US” tag=”bounintocomi-20″]five issue series[/easyazon_link] last year where he left his homeland and ventured to San Diego where he faced a whole new challenges, the most prominent being reincarnation.

The show will join BBC America staple Doctor Who, which interestingly enough was the inspiration for Dirk Gently when Douglas Adams wrote the Doctor Who serials City of Death and Shada.
