Dan Aykroyd Rips Ghostbusters’ Director Paul Feig A New One

Dan Aykroyd absolutely threw Ghostbusters‘ reboot director Paul Feig under the bus when he went on Britain morning talk show Sunday Brunch.

Aykroyd, the co-writer and star of the original 1984 Ghostbusters, blasted Feig:

The director, he spent too much on it and he didn’t shoot scenes we suggested to him. Several scenes that were going to be needed, he said, ‘No, we don’t need them.’ And then we tested the movie and they needed them, and he had to go back — about $30 to $40 million in reshoots.

He then added, “It cost too much, and Sony does not like to lose money. It made a lot of money around the world, but it just cost too much, making it economically not feasible to do another one.”

But he didn’t stop there. He then hit Feig on Twitter saying “We just wish he had been more in…”

The Ghostbusters reboot reportedly cost $144 million, but only made $128.3 million domestically and a total of $229 million worldwide.

The movie got decent critic reviews. Rotten Tomatoes‘ aggregator has the critic score at 73%, but the audience score was a measly 53%.  However, on Metacritic the movie received a 6.0 critic score and a 2.9 user score.

The Ghostbusters reboot was also plagued with political controversy that saw the first trailer receive over 1 million down votes. Former Breitbart Tech editor Milo Yiannopoulos railed against the film calling it a “feminist cash-in for angsty, blue-haired, Tumblr-obsessed, pronoun-bothering cat ladies.”

Yiannopoulos was eventually banned from Twitter after a number of tweets sent to Ghostbusters star Leslie Jones. Even Donald Trump chimed in, “They’re making Ghostbusters with only women! What’s going on?”

Dan Aykroyd’s attack on Feig is the latest for the movie that has been mired in criticism and controversy since it was announced in 2015.
