Suicide Squad’s Joel Kinnaman Unveils Suicide Squad 2 Filming Date

Suicide Squad star Joel Kinnaman who took on the role of squad leader Rick Flag unveiled in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that Suicide Squad 2 plans on beginning filming in 2018.

The Hollywood Reporter asked Kinnaman about the status of the Suicide sequel. Kinnaman replied, “As far as I know they’re writing the script and I think the plan is to shoot it sometime in 2018, but that could change. I think I’ll definitely come back for it.”

Kinnaman also dished on who he would like to see direct the sequel with Suicide Squad director David Ayer helming the Gotham City Sirens project.

Ultimately, I’d love for David Ayer to direct it, but if he doesn’t want to direct it then someone who is great with character and that’s able to ground the story and maybe put these characters in a more normal situation. It would be really interesting to see these crazy characters interact with regular people as well

I like where Kinnaman is going with this. It would be a pretty interesting idea to introduce Ra’s al Ghul to the DC Extended Universe and become the main foe of the Squad.

Another idea could be a renewed Deathstroke following the solo Batman film.

They could also tap into Batman’s rather extensive rogues gallery and bring a more minor character like the Cluemaster into play or even possibly the Riddler. With the Cluemaster they also open up bringing in Stephanie Brown.

They could also breathe life into an old Jack Kirby creation with Kobra or bring a rival squad to life with the Onslaught.

What villain would you like to see in the Suicide Squad sequel? Do you agree with Kinnaman they should focus on more “normal” villains.
