Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon actress Zhang Ziyi joins Kyle Chandler, Vera Farmiga, and Millie Bobby Brown for Godzilla: King of the Monsters, a sequel to 2014’s Godzilla.

But Ziyi is not just joining Warner Bros. and Legendary’s Godzilla movie. She will also be a prominent figure in what Warner Bros. and Legendary are calling their Monsterverse which aims to create a cinematic universe around their monster movies like Godzilla and King Kong.

Along with Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Ziyi will also appear in Godzilla vs Kong. The Hollywood Reporter notes her character will be “a key figure in the covert, creature-cataloging Monarch organization established in those films.” If you remember from 2014’s Godzilla, Monarch was the company set up in the 1950s to secretly study Godzilla and other creatures.

Ziyi will be working with director Michael Dougherty for Godzilla: King of the Monsters. The movie is based off a script written by Dougherty and Zach Shields. It’s expected to release on March 22, 2019. It will be followed up by Godzilla vs Kong sometime in 2020.

You will be able to see Zhang Ziyi before that as she just recently finished up filming a J.J. Abrams sci-fi thriller connected to his Cloverfield movies.
