Yesterday evening at Hall H of Comic Con 2017, The Defenders made an appearance with a new trailer for their team-up.
The Defenders will be streaming on Netflix next month, however the lucky attendants at Hall H of San Diego Comic Con last night got to see the first episode of the upcoming show. One such person in attendance at the panel yesterday was Kevin Downey. “Jon Bernthal came out and they did a panel with him and his role as The Punisher, and showed a clip for that show in what they had filmed so far,” he recalled.
Downey then went on to describe how everyone got to hear audio for the upcoming show, but weren’t shown any clips. Then the cast for The Defenders was brought out, and the program officially started.
“After a while, Sigourney Weaver stood up asking to show the audience something. So they showed us ‘an hour long teaser’.”
The Defenders consist of Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Iron Fist (Finn Jones), Luke Cage (Mike Coulter), and Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter). For the rest of us, we got to see the trailer with the main villain Sigourney Weaver, attempting to justify her actions to a recently resurrected Elektra Natchios (Elodie Yung). It looks as if the Hand, a group of mercenary ninjas, has decided to attack the heroes individually, and they are left with no choice but to team up to defend against them (hence the title).
There is no shortage of action in the trailer as the group attempts to fight off the evil organization with quips and witticisms despite their desperate situation of flight or fight. And much to our surprise as it was to the attendants at Hall H yesterday, the Punisher made an appearance in The Defenders too!
While footage from Hall H is not available yet, Netflix did give us a tease of the Punisher in a Defenders trailer with a voice over by Stan Lee on their Latin American YouTube channel.
Watch all the way until the end to get a glimpse of Jon Bernthal’s Punisher!
The Defenders will premiere on August 18th on Netflix.
