Terminator 2’s Joe Morton Explains Cyborg’s Biggest Fear In The Upcoming Justice League Movie!

Actor Joe Morton, best known for his role as Dr. Miles Dyson in Terminator 2, will be playing Dr. Silas Stone, the father of Victor Stone aka Cyborg in the upcoming Justice League film.

We first saw his character Silas Stone in a brief clip in Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice where he applies an alien technology, most likely a Mother Box, to his son Victor Stone in order to save him.

He opened up to IGN about why he believes he was cast in Justice League and Cyborg’s greatest fear and what he will have to face.

Morton was asked whether he believes his casting as Silas Stone is an homage to his character as Dr. Miles Dyson due to the similar nature of the characters and the choices they make.

Morton agreed answering, “It feels that way for sure. It feels because I’ve obviously gained a reputation for he guy who played the scientist who rebuilds something that’s not quite human.” He continued comparing both his characters to Dr. Frankenstein, “Frankenstein is what I always thought  of Miles was, in a way, the modern day Frankenstein. And I suppose in a certain sense so is Silas Stone.”

Morton continued his Terminator 2  comparison when describing the actions Silas takes in attempting to save his son to those of Dyson, “I think you’re correct. It is unintended consequences and then at first it’s not looked upon by Victor as something that’s correct.”

He then touches on how Cyborg is different from the rest of the members of the Justice League:

Unlike the other members of the Justice League, Victor has no alias, he has no way of hiding behind another personality or some sort of mask in order to protect themselves. He is very much like Frankenstein [Frankenstein’s Creature] again in that there’s no disguising who he is. So that what I think ends up happening is that section of the movie and certainly that character, Cyborg, is a metaphor for being The Other.

He also touched on why he’s glad to play Silas Stone noting:

I’m glad it’s being played by — that I’m playing dad and Victor is a black, young man. Because I think that is the metaphor in a certain way, that it is talking about what it means to be The Other.

Finally, he gets into discussing Cyborg’s biggest fear:

Even if you have something that you can contribute to society, very often society doesn’t view you that way. Because when you are The Other, the first response by the mainstream, if you will, is to ostracize. So I think that’s what Victor’s fears are. He has to figure out how to overcome before he then eventually becomes benevolent and understands that the powers that he has can be used for great good.

You can see Joe Morton as Dr. Silas Stone along with the rest of the members of the Justice League on the big screen on November 17, 2017.
