Jared Leto Will Return As Joker In Suicide Squad Sequel And Gotham City Sirens!

Jared Leto will be returning as the Joker for both the Suicide Squad sequel and the upcoming Suicide Squad spinoff, Gotham City Sirens.

This news came from a Deadline report that confirmed DC and Warner Bros. are working on a Joker origin story using a different actor.

Leto wasn’t sure whether he would be in either film back in June.

“There are are a lot of moving parts for that stuff and we’ll see what happens next,” he responded when asked about his role in Gotham City Sirens.

Leto’s Joker played only a minor role in the Suicide Squad film and was largely panned by fans and critics alike. Suicide Squad director David Ayer expressed regret over his use of Joker back in January, “Wish I had a time machine,” he said. “I’d make Joker the main villain and engineer a more grounded story.”

Ayer has moved on to helm Gotham City Sirens. Sirens will star Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn. She is expected to be joined by Catwoman and Poison Ivy. The movie will most likely be based off of the 2009 comic book by Paul Dini and Guillem March.

In the comic book, Catwoman has just had her heart cut out by Hush. Fortunately, Batman gets Zatanna to heal her. Upon recovering, Catwoman seeks vengeance on Hush and does so by stealing all of his money and giving it to Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, and Holly Robinson.

The movie will most likely use a different story as Ayer has teased Black Mask as a possible villain.

But with Leto returning as Joker, he might take a more prominent role, especially given Ayer’s regrets about the first Suicide Squad film.

Meanwhile the Suicide Squad sequel has been mired in issues. The movie lost their director Jaume Collet-Serra when he left to join Disney’s upcoming Jungle Cruise film starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. It has yet to name a replacement.
