Spider-Man veteran and prolific actor Willem Dafoe will take on Nuidis Vulko, one of Aquaman’s most trusted advisors and mentors, in the upcoming Aquaman film.

Dafoe’s Vulko will be part of the Atlantean circle and will have known Aquaman his entire life.

In a phone interview with IGN, Dafoe described Vulko, “Vulko is 100% Atlantean. So that’s different, because [Aquaman] is half-Atlantean and half-human.”

He elaborated on the differences between Vulko and Aquaman, “So they’re quite different and I’m capable of being outside of the water, but mostly it’s underwater. And I’m a guy that’s been around for a while. I have a kind of… let’s call it an armor. It’s a good look, I like it a lot.”

He then teased what Vulko will look like, “The day that they show the shot of the character will accomplish more than I can by talking about it now. I like the look very much, and know they released a toy recently. But it doesn’t look so much what I look like [in the film].”

Here’s a look at the toy Dafoe was talking about.

Vulko was created by Bob Haney and Nick Cardy. The character first appeared in The Brave and The Bold #73. In the comics, he’s a leader in the Atlantis science community and even gave Aquaman his stealth costume. He’s even assumed the throne of Atlantis in Aquaman’s absence.

Dafoe did insist he didn’t want to spoil anything for the movie, but he did give an update on his shooting schedule.

James Wan is fantastic. I don’t know what to tell you because I don’t want to create any spoilers. I’ve been on a little break after shooting for a couple of months off. And now, tonight I go back to Australia to shoot for about another month. But all goes well…Until people actually start seeing footage, I don’t want to spoil anything.

Aquaman is expected to arrive in theaters on December 21, 2018. It stars Jason Momoa as Aquaman/Arthur Curry, Amber Heard as Mera, Patrick Wilson as Ocean Master, Willem Dafoe as Nuidis Vulko, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, Temuera Morrison as Thomas Curry, Dolph Lundgren as Nereus, Nicole Kidman as Atlanna, Ludi Lin as Murk, and Michael Beach as Jesse Kane.
