Thor: Ragnarok Producer Reveals Why Thor Wasn’t In Captain America: Civil War

In watching Captain America: Civil War there were some notable absent Avengers. One of which was the God of Thunder Thor. Where was he? I doubt he was shacking up with Dr. Jane Foster, though I wouldn’t blame him.

Now we finally have some solid answers!

Screen Rant spoke with producer Brad Winderbaum on the set of Thor: Ragnarok, and he lgave us some juicy answers.

The journey he’s been on at the beginning of this movie, it’s not like five minutes after Ultron ends we start this movie. It’s a couple years later. And as we know, at the end of Ultron he’s started this quest to find the puppet master, and the Infinity Stones, and all that.

Thor is a man on a mission. He is grasping the bigger picture while some of the other Avengers are still tied up with personal loose ends on Earth.

Winderbaum continued:

What he realized really fast– I don’t think I’m giving too much away because it’s right at the top of the film, but basically that one quest, that universe-ending peril that he was trying to figure out dovetailed or branched off into any number of universe-ending perils that he’s been adventuring on for the two years leading up to the beginning of this film.

Brad also teased out how Thor will play into Avengers: Infinity War and what we can expect for his character.

We find him as a lone gunslinger, you know, a guy who’s been adventuring around the cosmos for two years right at the top of our movie. He’s a more savvy version of the character. In Dark World, he has trouble navigating that Dark Elf spaceship … but that’s the Thor of the past.”

Thor Ragnarok Villains

This is a fun and expected development for Thor. In his first two movies, we saw Thor as a capable warrior, but he lacked a social grounding outside of Asgard that was very obvious throughout all his appearances in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Even though this change might have left some features in the “past.” We can see a bit of it echo forth in the trailer in Thor: Ragnarok. Thor’s reaction to seeing The Hulk, aka Bruce Banner, jumps to mind for me.

Thor: Ragnarok debuts on November 3, 2017. It stars Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Cate Blanchett as Hela, Idris Elba as Heimdall, Jeff Goldblum as Grandmaster, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Karl Urban as Skurge, and Mark Ruffalo as The Hulk.
