The Hellboy movie just gave us our first look at David Harbour as Hellboy; he looks truly menacing.

I had to do a double take when I first saw it. He looked so much like Ron Perlman’s Hellboy.

Ron Perlman Hellboy

But once you do take a close look you can tell there are some noticeable differences. What stood out to me is Hellboy’s hair isn’t tied up in the back, but he is letting it flow. His arm is also drastically different. Instead of Perlman’s more rocky arm, Harbour’s looks almost metallic like it’s made of steel.

His belt has also grown. Where Perlman mainly had a gun holster, Harbour’s belt rivals Batman’s. He’s got a ton of pouches!

Harbour is also styling worn brown pants where Perlman sported leather black pants.

Another difference and it might just be the lighting, but Perlman’s coloring was a lot brighter compared to Harbour. Harbour’s is a darker more muted red.

Probably, the most striking thing is the tone it sets. This Hellboy doesn’t seem friendly or happy. He looks mean and angry. He looks like a Devil who has come to claim your soul and drag it back to hell. That scares the crap out of me!

What do you think? Do you like David Harbour’s Hellboy or do you prefer Ron Perlman’s look?
