Rogue One: A Star Wars Story actor Ben Mendelsohn is reportedly in talks to play the main villain for Marvel’s upcoming Captain Marvel film starring Brie Larson. Mendelsohn portrayed Director Krennic in Rogue One.

Variety reports Captain Marvel directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck are currently in talks with the star. The report indicates Mendelsohn was the director’s first choice.

Fleck and Boden had Mendelsohn in mind when they first started plotting the story and once the two sides were able to meet, Mendelsohn quickly agreed to pursue the role.

It’s more than likely if Boden and Fleck bring Mendelsohn on board he will play a Skrull or possibly the leader of the Skrulls.

Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige revealed the Skrulls would be the primary antagonist in the Captain Marvel movie at San Diego Comic Con. He also announced the film would take place in the 1990s before the Nick Fury ever thought of the Avengers Initiative. Speaking of Nick Fury, Samuel L. Jackson is expected to reprise his role in Captain Marvel.

Captain Marvel is expected to follow the story of Air Force pilot Carol Danvers who sees her DNA fused with an alien during an accident. Following the accident she receives superhuman strength, flight, and energy projection.

Captain Marvel will hit theaters on March 8, 2019.

Ben Mendelsohn can next be seen in Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One.
