RUMOR: Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s Black Adam To Appear in Suicide Squad Sequel

Black Adam The Rock

Plans for Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s solo Black Adam movie appear to have been put on the back burner at DC Films. In fact there is no writer or director attached to the film yet. However, a new rumor has the character taking on a major role in the upcoming Suicide Squad sequel.

The Wrap reports Black Adam may be the main villain in the upcoming sequel. The idea is the Suicide Squad is tasked with tracking down a weapon of mass destruction. That weapon will be Black Adam.

If the rumor is true, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is going to have an extremely busy schedule. The Suicide Squad sequel is planning an October 2018 production start. During that time, Johnson could potentially be filming a fifth season of HBO’s Ballers, Disney’s Jungle Cruise, as well as the Fast and Furious spin-off with Jason Statham. While he might be busy, The Wrap believes scheduling wouldn’t be an issue because Black Adam’s role in the movie wouldn’t take much time to shoot.

What Does It Mean?

This leads me to believe, Black Adam’s role in the film might not be that big after all. It definitely wouldn’t be on the level of Cara Delevingne’s June Moon/Enchantress. It could just be a teaser for the character to spark increased interest to move the main Black Adam solo film forward.

It’s possible Black Adam is entombed in the fictional Middle Eastern country of Kahndaq. Amanda Waller’s Suicide Squad believes the current Saddam Hussein-style dictator might be trying to obtain a weapon of mass destruction to use against the United States. In order to prevent that from happening she sends in the Squad and they haphazardly unearth Black Adam towards the end of the movie.

It would be very similar to the “Forever Evil” storyline where Black Adam is resurrected in order to depose the current Kahndaqi ruler. After defeating the current Kahndaqi regime, Black Adam takes power for himself. The final shot could be Black Adam sitting on his throne.

Hopefully, this is not the story they have planned out because it’s a gigantic waste of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s talents as well as Black Adam. Black Adam is a character worthy of his own origin film. I would much rather see a historical piece set in ancient Egypt where Black Adam receives his powers from the Wizard Shazam and is eventually corrupted by them as he seeks to rule the world.

It would be something we haven’t really seen in the superhero genre. A superhero who falls from grace and becomes the opposite of what he is meant to be. It’s possible this origin movie could still happen even with the Suicide Squad sequel, but his first entrance should be his origin.

Gavin O’Connor is expected to write and direct the Suicide Sequel. The original film directed by David Ayers and starring Margot Robbie and Will Smith earned $745 million worldwide with a $325 million domestic haul on just a $175 million production budget.

What do you think? Do you want to see Black Adam in the Suicide Squad sequel?
