George Takei has become one of the great icons of the LGBT community over the last few years. A lot of it has to do with his social media presence. He frequently interacts with fans. But it’s not all sunshine and rainbows for him.

Takei has become the latest Hollywood star to be accused of sexual misconduct. Scott R. Brunton accuses Takei of assaulting him in a condo in 1981. Brunton, who was 23 at the time time alleges the actor assaulted him in his condo after passing out from a night of drinking. In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Brunton claims Takei groped him and then tried to remove his underwear.

Brunton tells the Hollywood Reporter, “This happened a long time ago, but I have never forgotten it.” He continues, “It is one of those stories you tell with a group of people when people are recounting bizarre instances in their lives, this always comes up. I have been telling it for years, but I am suddenly very nervous telling it.”

Brunton then details that he first encountered Takei at Greg’s Blue Dot bar where the two exchanged phone numbers. He recounted the two would call from time to time and run into each other at clubs. When Brunton, broke up with his then-boyfriend Takei called him.

“He said, ‘Let me know what your new number is’ and I did. And not long after we broke up and I moved out, George called me,” Brunton recounts.

Takei then invited Brunton to dinner and a movie. “He was very good at consoling me and understanding that I was upset and still in love with my boyfriend,” Brunton says. “He was a great ear. He was very good about me spilling my heart on my sleeve.”

Then the two went back to Takei’s condo for a drink.

We have the drink and he asks if I would like another,” Brunton recalls. “And I said sure. So, I have the second one, and then all of a sudden, I begin feeling very disoriented and dizzy, and I thought I was going to pass out. I said I need to sit down and he said sit over here and he had the giant yellow beanbag chair. So I sat down in that and leaned my head back and I must have passed out.”

Brunton then recalls the alleged sexual assault:

The next thing I remember I was coming to and he had my pants down around my ankles and he was groping my crotch and trying to get my underwear off and feeling me up at the same time, trying to get his hands down my underwear. I came to and said, ‘What are you doing?!’ I said, ‘I don’t want to do this.’ He goes, ‘You need to relax. I am just trying to make you comfortable. Get comfortable.’ And I said, ‘No. I don’t want to do this.’ And I pushed him off and he said, ‘OK, fine.’ And I said I am going to go and he said, ‘If you feel you must. You’re in no condition to drive.’ I said, ‘I don’t care I want to go.’ So I managed to get my pants up and compose myself and I was just shocked. I walked out and went to my car until I felt well enough to drive home, and that was that.

George Takei was quick to release a statement through Twitter denying the allegations.

On CNN Brunton provided more details about the alleged assault.
They met in a Los Angeles gay bar with Takei’s boyfriend.
I heard this voice and I don’t know if you’ve ever heard George Takei speak, but he has a booming voice and his laugh was familiar. I looked through the crowd and told my boyfriend, ‘Look that’s Sulu.’
Brunton continued:
I thought it was cool that he thought enough of me to give me a sympathetic ear. I had no interest in him and he knew that, or he should have. He was so not my type. He was 20 years older than me.
Brunton then recalled the encounter again:
I had a second drink and then I started to feel terrible, and I stood up and said, ‘Oh my God, I’m going to pass out.
According to Brunton, George Takei then guided him to a yellow beanbag chair where the alleged assault took place.
The next thing I remember is waking up. He is on top of me and has my pants pulled down around my ankles and his hands are trying to get my underwear off. I said, ‘What are you doing? I don’t want this.’ He says, ‘You need to relax. I’m just trying to make you comfortable … And I said, ‘No, I don’t want this.’ I pushed him off and said I was going.

Takei for his part is denying the allegations of misconduct. So far he’s one of many men who as of today are being taken to task over alleged past misconduct.

However Takei did open up to Howard Stern a few years back about some of his sexual encounters where he appears to concede to Stern that he sexually harassed people against their will in the past.  If you listen you’ll understand why this is pretty damning.

Takei dances around Howard’s question of ever touching another man without their consent. But he seems to admit by his silence he has done things that Brunton claims he did. However, Takei tells Stern, “Some people are kind of skittish, or maybe afraid and you are trying to persuade.” Howard interjects, “Do we need to call the police?”

Whether or not the encounter George Takei describes was with Brunton is yet to be made clear.  For his part, Takei denies even knowing Brunton.
