In a new promotion for Justice League, Wonder Woman, Gal Gadot, and The Flash, Ezra Miller, interview each other for IGN. The questions start out fun and give you a look at these actor’s off-camera personalities. Gal even asks Ezra to give his best Batman impression which he enthusiastically does. He does a pretty good job too.

However, the interview gets extremely serious when Ezra Miller asks Gal:

I’m really into the idea of the turning of the tides, and how the last couple thousand years of human history have been so male-dominated in a way that has not always served us – clearly, here we are on the brink of destruction – and so I wonder if you would say something for me. Would you say into the camera, ‘Hetero-patriarchy, your wrath upon this world is over?’ I want it so bad. Hetero-patriarchy, your wrath upon this world is over.’

Gal Gadot seems confused by the term “hetero,” but Miller is quick to inform her what he means. “It’s like straight men ruling everything.”

Gal takes the high road and refuses to give Miller the line he wants. However, she does put misogynists on blast, “Misogynists, sexists your wrath upon this world is over.”

Listen. Miller’s question starts around the two minute mark.

I’m not sure this is the best marketing strategy for Justice League. It’s less than a week before the film comes out and last I checked straight males still make up a significant portion of the population and are still the main demographic for comic book movies. Why would you go out of your way to insult your main demographic?

The Data

Box Office Mojo reports 56% of the Thor: Ragnarok opening weekend audience was male compared to only 44% female. Wonder Woman tilted majority female with 52% of opening day audiences. 48% were male. That male population is still pretty high. And Wonder Woman is an outlier. Box Office Mojo reported the first Guardians of the Galaxy film in 2014 broke the female percentage barrier when it brought in 44% female. The previous record at the time was The Avengers at 40%.

Downright Evil?

Fortunately, Gal Gadot avoided Miller’s bait question and took the high road. She condemned misogynists and not straight males, who make up the majority of comic book audiences. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with being a straight male and to suggest so is absolutely vile and despicable. Ezra Miller should be ashamed of himself for even suggesting this.

I also don’t even know what he means by “wrath upon this world.” What wrath is he talking about? The invention of modern medicine? The invention of the internet? The invention of the smart phone? The invention of air conditioning? What about indoor plumbing or central heating? How about automobiles? What about drastic reduction of absolute poverty? What about the superhero characters that are giving you a job? I guess all those things that make our lives better and easier is somehow inflicting wrath upon the world. What a joke.

Ezra Miller seems at the very least absolutely ignorant about the world around him. However, it’s more than likely he knows exactly what he’s doing and that’s making straight males, who have done nothing wrong and I’m sure are some his friends a target for hate and violence. It’s downright evil.
