Who in the World is Wolfsbane in the upcoming New Mutants?

Wolfsbane

20th Century Fox’s upcoming New Mutants film is only a few months away and we wanted to get more acquainted with the colorful cast of mutants, especially Game of Thrones veteran Maisie Williams character of Wolfsbane.

We headed down to Flashback: Comics in Woodbridge, Virginia where shop manager Troy-David Phillips gave us an in-depth look at Wolfsbane’s character in the comics to give us an idea of what we will see on the big screen.

Troy breaks down Wolfsbane’s origin, her character’s evolution, her time with the New Mutants and then with X-Factor. Then we delve into her powers and how they work. Given her Werewolf design, her powers do differ significantly from what you would expect from a Werewolf. Finally, Troy breaks down Wolfsbane’s main villains and allies who have helped her throughout her entire comic book history.

I sure learned quite a bit about Wolfsbane. I thought her tragic origin story is quite unique compared to a number of other superheroes. It’ll be really interesting to see how it plays out in the film given they have cast Happy Anderson as Reverend Craig. It’s possible they might even make it more tragic. They could combine her already horrific upbringing under Reverend Craig with psychological torture under Alice Braga’s Dr. Cecilia Reyes. Or if they really wanted to get tricky, they could have Reverend Craig be the actual psychological torture. Now, that would be scary!

I can’t wait to see Maisie Williams bring Wolfsbane to life in the New Mutants film.

New Mutants is directed by Josh Boone. It stars Maisie Williams Rahne Sinclair/Wolfsbane, Charlie Heaton as Sam Guthrie/Cannonball, Anya Taylor-Joy as Ilyana Rasputin/Magik, Henry Zaga as Roberto da Costa/Sunspot, Blu Hunt as danielle Moonstar/Mirage, Alice Braga as Dr. Cecilia Reyes, and Happy Anderson as Reverend Craig.

You can catch the upcoming mutant horror flick on April 13, 2018.
