Marvel Comics Promotes C.B. Cebulski to Editor-in-Chief

C.B. Cebulski

Some pretty heavy news is coming out of Marvel Comics today. Marvel Comics has a new Editor-In-Cheif. C.B. Cebulski will replace outgoing Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso and take the helm of Marvel Comics. Check out the tweet below:

Marvel fans might have a good idea who C.B. Cebulski is. Throughout the 90s he was Marvel’s Talent Liason. The person who searched the world for new writers and artists who would build the future for Marvel. Cebulski brought Skottie Young, Rob Guillory, Phil Noto, Paul Azcata, David Lafuente, and Val De Landro into the Marvel fold.

From there, he was promoted to Senior Vice President at Marvel Comics. After his stint as VP, he became the Marvel Man at Disney in China where he worked tirelessly to spread the brand in the new and emerging market. A market that now is one of the most important ones on Earth, among the largest for movies, and other entertainment mediums.

With this new position with Marvel Comics, I would expect that C.B. Cebulski will return to the land of the free to take on the new position.

This shift at the top of editorial comes on the heels of declining sales as well as some pretty poor decisions regarding Marvel Comics and it’s in-house creators. They just lost one of the best minds in comics to DC Comics in Brian Bendis. Along with losing top talent, Marvel Comics continues to be overtly political and attacked President Donald Trump in their upcoming Marvel Legacy title Marvel Two-In-One #1.

Marvel Comics’ leftward tilt over the last few years hasn’t materialized into increasing sales. And this might be a signal that they’re willing to clean the board off a bit and get back to creating comics that are inclusive, instead of comics that seek to divide the fan base. Marvel is due for a good house clean up.

With C.B. Cebulski taking the helm, we can only wait a few months before we feel the full effects of any changes that his editorial style might bring.
