Shazam Director David F. Sandberg ROASTS Justice League and DC Extended Universe Hater

Justice League had a lot riding on its shoulders. Many speculated if the film did not perform well it could spell doom for potential DC-based films in the future. Others thought if it failed the entire DC Extended Universe could be shelved.  At this point, the film is projected to lose about 50 to 100 million dollars for Warner Bros. One Reddit user decided to create a worst case scenario, but Shazam director David F. Sandberg had the perfect reply.

The Reddit user claimed he had sources at Warner Bros. that were telling him Warner Bros. planned on shelving the entire DC Extended Universe. They were going to take a five-year break from all DC movies in order to figure out a game plan to move forward in the future. However Shazam director David F. Sandberg got wind of this wild theory and expertly put it to bed. Sandberg said, “Nobody told me. Can I take the day off tomorrow then? I really want to sleep in.” The Reddit user has since deleted his wild theory after he got called out.

It’s one thing to be called out online, but to have a major picture director, and one from the studio you claimed to have sources in must have hurt. As many of us already know, even though Justice League may not be performing as well as we’ve hoped, Warner Bros. is going ahead with a number of DC related projects.

For example, Aquaman has finished production, and with Jason Momoa’s popularity, it’s unlikely that his solo film will be shelved.

DC is also developing a Wonder Woman sequel due to the film’s wild success.

If anything it’s likely that DC will focus more on solo films before trying to jump again into a joint hero adventure.

Is it premature to announce the death of the DC Extended Universe? I believe so. We have Aquaman coming out next December, Wonder Woman 2 filming next summer along with SHAZAM, Suicide Squad 2, and Gotham City Siren all in different stages of development.

If any lesson is to be learned from this story, it’s that you shouldn’t spread rumors with no real information. You never know when you might get called out.
