Sebastian Stan Tries to Walk Back Huge Avengers Rumor He Started

Sebastian Stan
attends the HFPA & InStyle Annual Celebration of 2017 Toronto International Film Festival held at Windsor Arms Hotel on September 9, 2017 in Toronto, Canada.

A few weeks ago Sebastian Stan helped fuel speculation about Captain America taking on the Nomad persona. However in an interview with MTV’s Josh Horowitz he tried to walk that potential spoiler. I’m not sure he was very successful at doing so.

Sebastian Stan drew a beard and mustache on a photo of Chris Evans at the Rhode Island Comic Con. Then he wrote on the image, “Ah, I’m Nomad.” When that hit the net fans went wild including me. The Nomad theory had been making its round for months since the first photos of Captain America showed Captain America sporting a beard. In the comics, Steve Rogers has a very similar beard when he becomes Nomad.

Stan’s signing at Rhode Island Comic Con seemingly confirmed the theory.

However, when Stan was asked about the theory he attempted to put out some of the fan flames.

Stan explained his reasoning for the signing, A fan said to me that you can add anything you want on Chris’ face, and I was like, ‘It’s either a thought bubble or it’s that, so.

MTV’s Horowitz pressed him on the issue and asked, “Should we expect Steve Rogers as Nomad next time?”

Stan didn’t give any straight answers and seemingly attempted to walk back the Steve Rogers as Nomad theory. He said:You can expect whatever you want. First of all, I wasn’t even the first person to say that. Somebody else had gone out and said, ‘He’s Nomad,’ or something.”

However Stan did say, “He is missing the star on his chest, so I don’t know what that means…The way it’s been going I would be on set and go, ‘so you are missing the star on the chest, does that mean that you’re [Nomad]?’ I would probably discover it in the moment.”

Stan went on to discuss Winter Soldier’s character arc in the upcoming Avengers films. “My job there is to serve the bigger story, but there is an arc there for him and there is a continuation that’s gonna kind of line up to what we’ve seen so far.”

While Sebastian Stan didn’t give us a definitive yes or no on Steve Rogers becoming Nomad, he did continue to build up the hype of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4.

Do you think Steve Rogers will become Nomad?

Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters on May 4, 2019.
