John Boyega Gives Update on Finn and Poe’s Relationship

There has been very vocal minority trying to convince Lucasfilm and Disney to turn Finn and Poe’s buddy relationship into Star Wars’ first gay couple.

While hyping up the upcoming Star Wars: The Last Jedi, John Boyega, who plays Finn, told Mashable we will get a definitive answer by the end of the movie.

I’ve watched the film and I will confirm, that will be confirmed in The Last Jedi — you will know exactly which way it’s going. Seriously, you’ll know, by the time you watch it, you’ll know.

It looks like we will definitely know whether Lucasfilm will listen to this vocal minority and make Finn and Poe the first gay couple in Star Wars or if the push will be completely put to rest.

While this vocal minority want to turn Poe and Finn’s buddy relationship into a gay couple, others want to see Finn continue to pursue Rey. In The Force Awakens, Finn made it clear he was vying for Rey’s attention while on board the Millennium Falcon. It would make more sense to see the two of them develop a romantic bond instead of Poe and Finn, who were more friends than anything else.

However, everything could be thrown out the window. We last left Finn in a Bacta Tank and Rey jetted off to find Luke Skywalker. It’s possible we might not see either of these relationships pursued romantically.

Kylo Ren

Rey’s training with Luke Skywalker will most likely see her deepen her connection with The Force. But her relationship with Kylo Ren might also change. He might reach out to her to help her find her way separate from Snoke and Luke Skywalker. Kylo reaches his hand out appearing to ask Rey to join him.

To add to this potential relationship with Kylo Ren, in one of the latest TV spots for the film, Rey wields Kylo Ren’s red lightsaber as she prepares to do battle with Snoke’s Praetorian Guard and an unknown foe directly in front of her. It’s possible we might see Kylo Ren and Rey’s relationship develop into allies or even something more.

If Rey drifts towards Kylo Ren, Finn might look inward and focus on getting revenge. We know from the trailers he will once again do battle with Captain Phasma. It’s also possible he might try and make his own play for Rey as he sees her fall into the clutches of Ren. The trailers show him either getting captured by The First Order or possibly infiltrating them in order to get close to Rey. We saw Snoke torture her so he could be leading a rescue mission.
