Michelle Williams confirmed her role as Anne Weying aka She-Venom in Sony’s upcoming Venom film.

In an interview with Screen Rant, they asked her, “Is Venom comparable to anything else you’ve done previously, and what can you tell us about Anne Weying?”

Williams responded:

I’ve done one other movie where I was asked to track a tennis ball with my eyes and pretend it was a giant creature thing. Not my favorite thing in the world to do, but it is a skill set and I’m trying to learn it. And uh, she’s, geez, what can I tell you? Not too much right now.

Williams also told Screen Rant, why she joined the project. It’s all about Tom Hardy.

We’re having fun. Um, we’re having fun. It’s, um, well for me it’s Tom (Hardy). I just thought, well, that guy knows what he’s doing. I’m just going to go steal some of his moves, figure out what he knows. I just wanted to, you know, you’re only as good as the people you play with and I really wanted to challenge myself with him as a partner.

While Williams was scant on details about what we can expect from her character of Anne Weying, we do know what her role was in the comics.

Weying was Eddie Brock’s ex-wife and a successful lawyer. She actually aided Spider-Man by providing him personal details on Eddie. She was actually instrumental in convincing Eddie Brock to give up his vendetta.

On another ocassion, Ann was shot by Sin-Eater and near death. In order to save her life, the Venom symbiote bonds with her. She then uses the symbiote to attack her aggressors. She began ruthlessly killing him. Eddie saw this wanton violence and instantly feared for his ex-wife’s well-being. Not to mention, he was scared of her. In order to stop the violence, he compels the symbiote to once again bond with him and leave Anne. The story is an interesting look at personal responsibility as Anne vomits upon realizing what she did. She screams, “That thing made me do that!” Eddie responds, “It can’t make you do anything you don’t really want to do.”

Michelle Williams joins Tom Hardy, Riz Ahmed, Jenny Slate, and Woody Harrelson in the upcoming Venom movie which is based off the Venom: Lethal Protector mini-series.

Venom is expected to hit theaters on October 5, 2018.
