Wonder Woman Director Patty Jenkins Says Sequel Will Be ‘Totally Different’

Wonder Woman

Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins revealed the highly anticipated sequel, which is expected to arrive in theaters in November of 2019, will be a “totally different film” than the first movie.

Jenkins spoke with ET Canada:

We’re actually making a totally different film with a lot of the same, similar like things that we love, but it’s its own movie completely, so it’s not ‘two’ to us. It’s an entirely new adventure together that we couldn’t be luckier [to do].

There have been rumors the film will take place during the Cold War and that Chris Pine’s Steve Trevor might even return after his death in the first film. However, nothing official has been revealed by Warner Bros. or DC Films.

Wonder Woman was a massive box office success. It earned more than $821 million worldwide and became the third highest grossing domestic film of the year only trailing Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Beauty and the Beast. Worldwide the film was still massively successful. It placed 9th overall.

It’s interesting given Wonder Woman’s success that Jenkins and Warner Bros. would want to go with “totally different” instead of tried and true. However, Jenkins does say the sequel will have “things that we love.”

Along with providing an update on the sequel, Jenkins also revealed she is trying to get a Lynda Carter cameo in the sequel. For those that don’t know Lynda Carter played Wonder Woman in the 1977 television show.

Lynda is one of the dearest people to us, has been a great mentor and dear friend. And we actually desperately tried to get her in the first one and we had the scheduling that couldn’t work, so she’s always been a part of our Wonder Woman family. We won’t say anything yet, but we certainly—there’s no lack of trying.

The Wonder Woman sequel begins production this summer and the film is expected to hit theaters in November 2019.
