Noah Hawley Gives Update on Doctor Doom Film After Disney/Fox Deal

Doctor Doom

Legion and Fargo creator Noah Hawley surprised everyone when he announced his next project would be Doctor Doom at San Diego Comic Con.

Hawley recently spoke with Collider where he gave an update on the film and whether or not the Disney/Fox merger has affected it:

I haven’t had a single conversation yet about Doom in the context of the merger. On some level, we’re still looking at a period of time – probably a year, at the least – for this whole thing to go through. Who knows, corporately, what conversations will be had, but certainly, until it goes through, it’s not a legal thing. I don’t know. I’ve been waiting for the phone to ring to see if anyone is gonna have an opinion. Otherwise, it’s just business as usual for me.

This is most likely the case for almost everyone at Fox, although there is a theory that the X-Men universe will connect with Marvel Studios’ Marvel Cinematic Universe with X-Men: Dark Phoenix and Captain Marvel both potentially introducing the Skrulls as villains at almost the same time.

Fox has been making big plans with their X-Men universe. They are introducing The New Mutants in April. Cabin in the Woods filmmaker Drew Goddard is working on a X-Force film. There is obviously Ryan Reynolds and the Deadpool franchise that took everyone by storm in 2016. They also have a Gambit movie in the works with Channing Tatum as well as Multiple Man film with James Franco attached.

It will be interesting to see how Disney CEO Bob Iger, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige and the heads of Fox’s X-Men universe including Simon Kinberg, who is also working with Disney on a Star Wars film, work things out.

But it looks like the status quo remains and everyone at Fox is continuing business as usual. As Hawley points out it could take over a year for the deal to be final. And it’s possible it might take longer than that if the government decides to block the deal under the guise of anti-trust.
