Liam Neeson Says He’s Open to Play Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn Again!

Qui-Gon Jinn

After the much-rumored Obi-Wan Kenobi solo movie was confirmed to be in production at Lucasfilm and Disney, many speculated Ewan McGregor would return to the role. With little to no information about the plot, others believe that Liam Neeson’s Qui-Gon Jinn could also return for the film or even get his own movie.

If you recall Qui-Gon Jinn died in the first prequel, The Phantom Menace. He was bested in a lightsaber duel by the Sith apprentice Darth Maul.

However, Qui-Gon Jinn would go on to discover the ability to become one with the Force. Yoda explains to Obi-Wan Kenobi in Revenge of the Sith, “An old friend has learned the path to immortality. One who has returned from the netherworld of the Force…Your old mast.” He would later appear to Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars: The Clones Wars Season 3 Episode 17 Ghosts of Mortis as a Force Ghost. Liam Neeson provided his voice talents for the role.

Qui-Gon Jinn would then instruct Yoda to visit Dagobah in Season 6 of The Clone Wars.

Yahoo Movies UK asked Neeson about the possibility of returning as Qui-Gon Jinn.

“This is the first time I’m hearing of this. No one’s been in touch with me. I know in the Star Wars world anything is possible. In the first one, The Phantom Menace, I died but we know, you know, Jedis come back and stuff but no one’s been in touch. We’ll see.”

It’s possible Qui-Gon Jinn could be a guide to Obi-Wan Kenobi on Tatooine and train him on how to become immortal and one with the Force. In fact, in the canon novel From a Certain Point of View, Qui-Gon manifests to have a conversation with Obi-Wan about Luke Skwywalker and the future of the galaxy. So it’s quite possible for Qui-Gon Jinn’s character to appear in an upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi solo film.

But what might be more interesting would be to see a solo Qui-Gon Jinn movie. I would love to see a version of Taken in the Star Wars universe. It could also explore how Qui-Gon Jinn learned to become immortal and really explore the working of the Force.
