Thanks to movies such as Avatar and Don’t Breathe, Stephen Lang has created an impressive resume. But it seems that the stage and screen actor has another character in mind and one that could play a major role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

In an interview with Screen Rant, Lang opened up about his favorite Marvel Comic, and who’d he like to play if given the opportunity.

“My favorite comic book of all the Marvel series, was always Sargent Fury and His Howling Commandos. I friggin’ loved Sgt. Fury’s Howling Commandos and to me it was always like, I want to be Nick Fury.

Lang would then go on to praise Samuel L. Jackson’s current portrayal of Nick Fury in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Now, I think Sam Jackson does a great Nick Fury. But, understand that the Nick Fury Sam Jackson does is Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. and I never got into Nick Fury when he was Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., you know, I was always the Howling Commando guy.”

Not only is Fury on the mind, but Lang already has a comic arc in mind with Sgt. Fury and His Howling Commandos. The current Nick Fury played by screen giant Samuel L. Jackson is based on the Marvel Ultimate Universe. The version Lang has in mind is more tied to the traditional arc of the character.

The only problem I foresee is how can Marvel incorporate another version of Nick Fury? We know that Marvel currently has 20 plus movies planned for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And we also know that the Cosmic focused phase is on the horizon with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and Captain Marvel on the way. That’s not to say there won’t be plenty of action on Earth. A Black Widow solo movie was recently announced and it could be an interesting way to introduce this version of Nick Fury. In fact, even with the exploration of the cosmos it’s possible they could introduce a multiverse. It’s not out of the realm of possibility. In fact, Ant-Man introduced us to the Quantum Realm which will most likely be further explored in Ant-Man and the Wasp. Who is to say they won’t introduce a multiverse in Avengers: Infinity War or Avengers 4.

With Disney’s buyout of 20th Century Fox a few weeks ago, this might be a great way to bridge all of the different universes currently established without rebooting another franchise. Currently, properties like the X-Men already have movies and TV shows that are in production, about to be released, or playing on TV. This idea just might be the solution to forming one giant Marvel screen universe.

Do you think Stephen Lang has what it takes to embody Nick Fury? Or did David Hasselhoff cement the character? Tell me in the comments below!
