Captain America’s Secret Avengers Teased for Avengers: Infinity War

Avengers: Infinity War is going to be the biggest movie on the planet when it comes to theaters on April 27. To add to that excitement, Marvel appears to be introducing a whole new team to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Captain America’s Secret Avengers.

While their appearance is not confirmed a description of Captain America from Toys R Us promotional material definitely hints the Secret Avengers could be referenced in Avengers: Infinity War.

The bio from the Toy R Us promotional material reads, “Since opposing the Sokovia Accords, the super-soldier has remained under the radar while continuing to do what he believes is right – saving the world one clandestine mission at a time.”

Captain America Bio

Now, it’s possible this could be referencing the events from Captain America: Civil War. In the movie Captain America vocally opposes the Sokovia Accords and then goes undercover with the help of Falcon and Sharon Carter to rescue his friend Bucky Barnes. He fails to rescue him and instead government forces capture him. However, Bucky would eventually escape and team-up with Captain America, Ant-Man, Falcon, Scarlet Witch, and Hawkeye to track down Helmut Zemo before he activated more Winter Soldiers. Their mission would eventually lead them to Siberia where Helmut Zero would reveal evidence that Bucky Barnes killed Howard Stark. It would set up a fight for the ages as Iron Man would take on Bucky and Captain America. Cap and Bucky would end up walking away and heading down to Wakanda. It would be the last we saw of Captain America.

However, it’s possible this description could be referring to other clandestine missions Captain America takes following the events of Captain America: Civil War.

In the comics, Captain America led a team of Secret Avengers that would take on missions the main Avengers line-up could not do as public figures. The team would include Valkyrie, Black Widow, Beast, Sharon Carter, Moon Knight, Ant-Man, Nova, and War Machine. Their first mission involved investigating a Roxxon Energy Corporation mining facility on Mars. Reports indicated Roxxon had acquired the Serpent Crown, an ancient artifact that channels the power of Set.

It would make sense that Captain America would continue to fight the good fight even without the backing of the United States government. He made that abundantly clear in Captain America: Civil War. It wouldn’t surprise me to see that he was leading his own team to take on evil doers across the planet. If he was leading the Secret Avengers it would allow Marvel Cinematic Universe creators to go back in time and explore a number of Captain America’s missions between Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War. It’s possible we already know who is on Captain America’s Secret Avengers. He did break his team out of the Raft at the end of Captain America: Civil War. That team included Hawkeye, Scarlet Witch, Falcon, and Ant-Man.

It wouldn’t be too much of a stretch to see Black Widow and Sharon Carter join up with Captain America. I could also see Black Panther, Shuri, or even Okoye also joining the team after they flee to Wakanda. I’d be down to see that team taking on some evildoers.

What do you think? Does this bio hint at the Secret Avengers and could we see Captain America leading them on missions to protect the Earth while the Sokovia Accords are in full effect?
