Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s Rampage Movie Announces New Release Date!

Rampage

Rampage starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson moved their release date from April 20 to April 13 of this year.

The move by Warner Bros., the studio behind Rampage, appears to be in response to Disney and Marvel Studios’ recent announcement moving Avengers: Infinity War’s release date from May 4 to April 27.

The Hollywood Reporter notes producers for Rampage “wanted to preserve a two-week cushion” between Rampage and Avengers: Infinity War.

What’s really interesting is that all of these movies changed their release dates after Fox radically changed their release schedule. They removed their upcoming mutant horror film, The New Mutants, from its previously scheduled release date of April 13 to February 22, 2019. Along with pushing The New Mutants back almost a year, Fox also pushed Deadpool 2’s release date to May 18, 2018. It was previously scheduled to release on June 1, 2018. The major studios appear to be playing a game of musical chairs with each other as they attempt to position their films in the most lucrative position to draw people to theaters.

Rampage is an adaptation of the classic 1980s arcade game where you three monstrous creatures wreak havoc on cities across the United States. The game allowed players to choose between three creatures which included George, a giant Gorilla, Lizzie, a giant dinosaur/lizard creature, and Ralph, a giant werewolf. Players had to completely destroy the city in order to progress in the game and they were confronted with increasingly difficult levels of military forces.

The film sees Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson acting as a caretaker for George, the peaceful silverback gorilla. However, George comes into contact with a rogue genetic experiment that mutates George into a raging creature of enormous size. But George isn’t the only animal to fall victim to this experiment. There are other animals including 30 foot tall wolf and a giant crocodile. Johnson’s Davis Okoye must team up with a discredited genetic engineer to find a cure and stop the gigantic monsters from destroying the world.

The film has been “testing very strongly.” It also doesn’t hurt that Johnson is the star and is coming off a rather successful performance in Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle.

Rampage will compete with Borg vs. McEnroe, The Miracle Season, Overboard, and Sgt. Stubby: An American Hero on April 13.
