Avengers: Infinity War Writers Declare “We Will Say Farewell to People”

Thanos

Avengers: Infinity War screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely promised a number of characters won’t be making out of the movie.

McFeely spoke to Entertainment Weekly saying, “It’s safe to say we will say farewell to people.”

And they weren’t the only ones to hint that a number of characters will walk into the sunset, sacrifice themselves, or simply be killed. Robert Downey Jr., who plays Iron Man and definitely launched the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe back in 2008, explained Avengers: Infinity War will offer a definitive ending.

“We’re going to pull out the stops, and stop exploring conventions, and look to do stuff where go, ‘Oh, but if we do that, that’s very, very definitive.’ Well, great, let’s get definitive for a change!”

He added, “We’re like a family now. Ten years later, we’re hanging out and having lunch, and kind of wondering when the draft is going to come in. Which one of us bites it and when?”

McFeely and Downey weren’t the only ones to hint about a number of characters dying. Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige added, “The notion of an ending, the notion of a finale, became very intriguing to us, in large part because you don’t see it that often in this particular genre.” Those are pretty ominous words.

It might be hard for a number of fans to take, but it definitely appears there will be some heart crushing deaths and sad farewells for a number of Marvel’s heroes. It’s quite possible we will say goodbye to Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, and more.

Chris Hemsworth, who plays Thor, has already confirmed his contract with Marvel Studios is up after the untitled Avengers 4 film. “Contractually, right now — yeah, this is it. I’m done. I won’t be playing the character again,” said Hemsworth. However, he’s also left the door opened for a fourth Thor film, “We gave cheers … a few times. To Thor 3, but it also was like, ‘What could we do with four? We could do this and this.’ We were throwing ideas around. I felt like we re-invented him. There is a bigger platform now to continue if we want to.”
