Wielder of the Space Stone Confirmed for Avengers: Infinity War

Red Skull Space Stone

Avengers: Infinity War is less than 50 days from coming to theaters and Thanos’ quest to obtain all of the Infinity Stones will be an absolute marvel to watch as he tears through the Marvel Cinematic Universe. One of the Infinity Stones he will seek out is the Space Stone.

We first saw the Space Stone in Captain America: The First Avenger when the Red Skull attempts to use it to conquer the world during World War II. The stone would be recovered by Howard Stark and used to create weapons for S.H.I.E.L.D. which draws the attention of Thanos. Thanos sends Loki with the Mind Stone to retrieve the Space Stone and subjugate Earth. However, Loki ends up being defeated and the Space Stone is transported back to Asgard and kept in Odin’s vault. We would next see the Stone in Thor: Ragnarok when Hela walks by it on her way to claim the Eternal Flame. With Asgard’s physical destruction the Space Stone’s location was undisclosed.

The first Avengers: Infinity War trailer would reveal Loki had the Space Stone as he appeared to offer it to Thanos. Although it was unclear if he took it from Odin’s Vault or would acquire it later. But now we know. Entertainment Weekly revealed Loki does control the Space Stone.

“Before the end of Thor: Ragnarok, Tom Hiddleston’s Loki managed to pocket the blue Space Stone locked away in Asgard’s archive. This is the object Thanos sent him to retrieve in the original Avengers, and he not only failed — he lost the staff that contained the yellow Mind Stone (now giving life to Paul Bettany’s Vision). We know Thanos collects the Space Stone early in Infinity War, so Loki has likely settled his account. Partially.”

However, the Space Stone won’t be the only Infinity Stone of interest in Avengers: Infinity War. The most important stone will be the Soul Stone. It’s the only Infinity Stone that has not been revealed. Many believe the Soul Stone could be in Wakanda and connected to the Heart-Shaped Herb that allowed T’Challa and Killmonger to communicate with their ancestors. We’ll probably have to wait until the actual movie to figure out where it is.

We”ll get our answers sooner rather than later as Avengers: Infinity War will come out earlier than originally set. It will hit theaters on April 27th.
