Marvel Studios released their most dramatic television spot “One Goal” yesterday.

The TV spot begins with Gamora’s voice over saying, “The entire time I knew Thanos, he only ever had one goal. To wipe out half the universe.”

While Gamora says this we get clips of Thanos walking out through the portal, Gamora talking to Tony, Thanos’ Q-ship sitting above New York City, Peter Parker looking out the school bus window, Tony Stark looking at the wreckage around New York with Doctor Strange, Bruce Banner, and Wong in the background, and then pictures of the battle of Wakanda as Thanos’ force look to penetrate the shield surrounding the African country.

Then we get an ominous shot of Vision as he looks up at Scarlet Witch and says, “We are out of time.”

We then get clips where the Avengers look defeated. Their is some kind of massive creature moving through the woods near Wakanda. It’s more than likely this is Thanos or Cull Obsidian. We then get shots of Doctor Strange being tortured, and Rocket Raccoon just looking sad. Finally, we get a clip of Black Panther and the forces of Wakanda preparing for battle. However, unlike the previous trailers where it feels more heroic, the sad background music makes this last stand tragic. You feel there is no hope left and they are going into battle knowing they will die.

As the TV spot comes to a close Thanos says, “The end is near.” We get shots of Thor working some kind of alien machine. It’s possible he’s working to craft his new weapon. Groot looks on as Thor calls down the thunder. Black Widow and Falcon look above them in horror. We get a new shot of Gamora looking in utter shock at something. She looks like she’s in an office building of some kind. Then Thanos leaps at the camera and we get the quick transition to him about to crush Captain America like a bug.

This TV spot definitely shows a very different tone the film could take as the sad, tragic soundtrack makes the heroes seem resigned to defeat.

Avengers: Infinity War comes out on April 27, 2018.
