Avengers: Infinity War is still crushing it at the box office and there’s a good reason why. It’s because it’s a very good film. And now that a lot of fans have seen the movie, there’s already speculation about what will happen in next year’s Avengers 4 film.

One of the biggest theories, and one that we’ve pushed is that the Russo brothers might incorporate characters whose licenses are currently being held by Fox which include the Silver Surfer, Fantastic Four, and the X-Men. In fact, we believed the X-Men and the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) might actually be more connected then previously thought. The recent news of the merger between Fox and Disney gave the theory added power. Adding fuel to this fire was a casting list for Avengers: Infinity War which included the Silver Surfer.

However, Avengers: Infinity War directors Joe and Anthony Russo have dashed those theories. In an appearance on the Playback Podcast, Anthony Russo was blunt about not including the Fox characters, “I think just as far as where that specific deal is at right now, it’s not at the point where we can start working with those characters on a creative level yet.” He added, “We’d love to and hopefully it will all work out some day, but it’s not in the time frame of these movies that we’re making right now.”

And it’s more than likely that the Russo brothers will get the opportunity to tinker in the sandbox with Fox’s characters once the Disney/Fox deal goes through. The brothers plan on sticking with Marvel after Avengers 4. And they seem to be staying grounded and not letting the massive success of Avengers: Infinity War go to their head. Joe Russo said, “If you ever think in terms of outdoing, you tend to trip over your own two feet. You really have to commit to, ‘What is the narrative here? What story are we trying to tell? What is required to tell that story?”

Would you want to see the Russo Brothers take on a Fantastic Four story or maybe a story to introduce the X-Men to the MCU?
