This past Tuesday Ocean’s 8, an all-female sequel to Oceans 11, had its world premiere. While on the red carpet, one of the stars of the film, Sandra Bullock, decided it was time to address the backlash the rebooted Ghostbusters movie received back in 2016.

If you remember, Ghostbusters was also an all-female reboot that starred Kate McKinnon, Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, and Leslie Jones. The film was panned by audiences receiving a 52% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Well, it appears Sandra Bullock was not happy about the backlash the film received and she decided to address those who disliked the Ghostbusters film.

While speaking with Variety, Bullock stated, “That was unfair on a level that I can’t even not be mad about talking about. They literally walked into a firing squad.”

An interesting way of describing fans who had some very valid reasons for disliking the film. Where to start?  Maybe it’s lazy writing, sloppy attempts at humor, terrible trailers, and sexism just to name a few. There was plenty to dislike that even original Ghost Busters star/writer Dan Aykroyd didn’t have kind words about the reboot.

However, Bullock had more to say:

“You had five of the most gifted comedian actresses on the planet — I’m just gonna leave it at that. And it doesn’t just take five people to make a movie. It takes about 300, so, you know what? Let’s back off the meanness. Let’s have a year of kindness. The women are here — we’re not going anywhere. But this isn’t about just women. We like sitting at the table with men. We just want to be invited to their table as well because we like them at our table.”

In regards to a year of “kindness,” a bit of that towards the fans, those who pay these huge salaries to the actors and actress of that industry, might go a long way.

Bullock wasn’t the only Ocean’s 8 star who made a statement regarding the all-female cast. Awkwafina added her own thoughts:

“My advice for those people is just watch the movie [‘Ocean’s 8’] first and then go on Reddit,” she said. “It’s as simple as that. Watch it first.”

What do you make of Bullock’s and Awkwafina’s statements? Does Bullock have a right to be pissed at fans who didn’t like way the Ghostbusters reboot? Are you planning to see Ocean’s 8?

Ocean’s 8 stars Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Rihanna, Helena Bonham Carter, Sarah Paulson, Awkwafina, Mindy Kaling, and Dakota Fanning. The film debuts in the United States tomorrow June 8, 2018.
